I've never seen this version of the Batmobile before--was this car cool in the late 80s or something? I do like the little Bat Rims, though. From Justice League International, Annual 1988.

It's really kinda amazing how little agreement there was between artists in the 1980s and 1990s over how to draw the Batmobile.

Bat-chback. It's right there, dude!

That version actually looks more like the notion they briefly had when Nightwing had a car, which was that Dick could swap out different bodies on the car as a disguise, while the internals were all still the... Wing-mobile?

Not as strong as you'd expect.

Astro City had a baseball-themed hero in a scene. The makeup of the page was very much like this.

Was his sidekick football-themed, or am I thinking of something else?

I don't have it handy, but I'm pretty sure they were The All-American and Slugger. Baseball-themed, but the villain of the day required them to build a time stop device shaped (and carried) like a football.

They were in "The Nearness if You" special/mini, iirc

The All-American is football themed, Slugger is baseball.

Given that this is 1980s DC, I'd say this is more like the famous boner panels than "ha ha, Joker's gay for Batman"

Oh? Now I'm intrigued

Does JJJ admit he's known it's Peter under that mask, and was trying to motivate the kid to be a better hero?

Does that series get better? I dropped it after like the first issue since something didn't quite work for me (and I generally love Zdarsky's writing). I suppose I should give it another chance.

There's nothing special about me.
I feel like the best thing to compare it to- and this is a weird comparison- is Empowered. It seems all goofy genre fun at first, and doesn't really lose it, but then this issue comes around and shows 'no, these are actual people here, not just punchlines'.
