Pasta - speed things up by putting in the oven
Meatloaf - also oven

Potatoes - I guess we just boil them and add butter, but you can also roast them.

I guess theres the deep fryer too

If you want to do that poo poo to show the impact of nuclear warfare fine but how about maybe pointing out where you started on where you started on that particular axis. Or, better, have your call-to-action just be an obelisk of all of the names of the dead with ways to contact active anti-nuke organizations all over the world to donate time, talent, and treasure.

As it stands, loving Fallout 1 and 2 have a more genuine anti-nuke message than the Hiroshima museum in a lot of ways because they don't try to canonize anyone as a holy martyr for getting incinerated in nuclear fire.

Depends on the museum. I know there's at least one in Tokyo that ranks pretty high on the self-flagellation scale, but Hiroshima's nuke museum only saying "getting nuked is bad" would be a serious improvement, see above for explanation.

The latter is theoretical the former happened. The Hiroshima museum has no impetus or obligation to make any excuses for the bombing.

I want to say "white people = casserole dish" is the gist of the poor comparison. If so, it's strong with regards to public food exchanges like potlucks or bringing food over to a host's Thanksgiving party, but mostly for the ease of transportation+cooking. Generally you don't borrow a host's fryer, and re-heating things is easiest in a convection oven without ruining it like a microwave.

It's the drugs that make me :psyduck:

Mail could be stolen, or could be fraud; possible it's a relocated birth tourism racket, or gaming government payments like social security.

But I can't find plausibility for the drugs.

Leung also said Hong Kong has to handle the issue of people disrespecting national symbols, which made mainland officials and residents sad and created a bad image for Hong Kong.

“When the national anthem was played at graduation ceremonies, some people raised umbrellas, turned their backs – no one dealt with these students, no one dealt with these principals,” he said.

He said it was not issue of freedom of speech: “This is absolute nonsense.”

Bonus "Blame the victims".

Another speaker, Hang Lung Properties chair Ronnie Chan, said Hong Kong people were of the group with the least idea of their country in the world.

He blamed the colonial government for creating generations of people without any concept of the country, because the British did not want Hongkongers to move to the UK, or know China.

“You cannot blame the young people now – they are the victims. Before 1997, the British government did not allow them to have any concept of the country – and they should have the concept after 1997, but it is a huge project that cannot be done in one day,” he said.

Chan is also the chairman of the Asia Society board of trustees.

i don't think you necessarily have to deal with that if you want to just say 'yo nukes blow'. regardless of historical context, nukes do indeed blow and shouldn't be used. you can make an argument how in that one situation it was justified because of the casualties that were absolutely guaranteed to happen in the alternative (calling the 3m+ figure 'theoretical' ignores the very grim calculus the Americans had perfected during the Pacific campaign) - but i think it's a fair stance to take that this entire conversation is beyond the pay grade of your average museum goer and you just don't want to deal with it. it's perfectly reasonable to just stick to 'yo nukes blow' and not talk about anything beyond the absolute certainty that civilization as we know it is hosed if nukes are ever used in a real way again - not only due to the horrific effects of the bombs that were used, but on the reality that actual modern nukes make Fat Man and Little Boy look like firecrackers.

where i get off the figurative bus here is when you go beyond 'yo nukes blow' to turning it into a martyrdom story, a pride coup for people who weren't even born yet that they live in the city, and an indictment of any soul involved in the affair. at that point, you are bringing historical context into it and you are making the alternatives salient. you are trying to harvest a benefit on a story you're not fully telling and being revisionist about. the hiroshima nuke museum absolutely did this the last time I was there (which, admittedly, was half a decade ago at this point, so it's possible it's changed) and it appalled me to see dilettantes turn the entire matter into a talking point on how great they are for being part of a story they showed up to 50 years late.

The Yasukuni Museum is the funniest museum I've ever seen and I highly recommend it if you enjoy things that are stupid. Their WW2 narrative is essentially: the perfidious Chinese attacked our troops outside Beijing for some reason that cannot be comprehended, then we defended ourselves bravely until the Americans rolled up and nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki because ????? woe is us.

They also have an original Zero, which is neat. And the antique market outside the shrine on Sundays is way cool.
