I have two questions for you guys. First, how do you keep track of new metal releases? It always seems you all have listened to every album that came out over the past year. My method is to just stumble across announcements in my FB feed. I know I'm missing out on a lot of stuff.

Second, what's your method for keeping track of what you've listened to and your opinion of it? Do you organize it in some way or just rely on memory?

I follow this thread and some metal blogs, I usually check out stuff that good posters recommend + stuff that sounds like Gorguts. If I like it enough I buy it and make a playlist. There's so much new music coming out, and so much old stuff i need to revisit, that I can only really give like twenty albums a fair amount of listens though (10 listens or so???).

Ne O and Allegaeon are hitting Cambridge on the 20th, I think I'm going to that, and then Exhumed/Arkaik on the 29th, and then early next year is also looking good I think, maybe see Enslaved in Feb, Kreator and Sabaton in March.

There's also a Whitechapel/Carnifex show in Providence, RI on the 19th but that's a bit far for a Sunday night.

Really nice dudes, too.

e: George nails the opening scream on Devoured By Vermin every time live. That's not edited, he actually screams that long.

e2: Red Before Black is amazing so far, giving it a playthrough on Spotify right now. The production is so good, George's vocals are a little lower in the mix but still that crisp roar that he's famous for, guitar tone is pure Cannibal Corpse. You just know even before you hear George that it's a Cannibal song. The guys just write evil-sounding riffs and the tone is super distinctive. The bass is thick and menacing, just rumbling along on the bottom end.

He's a funny dude, I caught him off guard by yelling "DUNCAN HILLS COFFEE JINGLE!" between songs and he laughed and growled a couple lines.

This was many years ago when Metalocalypse was new and relevant. Probably season 1.

Funny metal dude stories: the singer from Thy Art Is Murder explained to me that in Australia, "you call your best mate a oval office, and you call all the other cunts 'mate'."

Karl Sanders is quiet and kind of dorky in the most lovable way, he's like a big ol death metal teddy bear. Super nice dude, genuinely appreciates his fans, just an all around nice guy. His wife is a sweetheart too.

I was in line behind all of Korpiklaani once in the men's room. Just loudly chatting away in Finnish as they waited.

Spiderman in the pit during 1349's set at NEMHF 2014 takes the cake, though. Dude was just going absolutely balls out crazy.

I typically check Metal Sucks on Friday mornings at work to see what they have on the new release list then check my Google music to see which of those albums are available that I'm interested in.

Usually for AOTY I make a list of all the albums I'm going to (or have) listen to that came out that year and then listen to them all again to decide what makes my top 10 (or 20 depending on how much came out that I listened to).
