SHUT UP AND PLAY HOCKEY

John Stevens: Great coach, or greatest coach?

But really, it's good that Darryl Sutter isn't around anymore to bench kids like Kempe and Iafallo, or misuse Dustin Brown and overplay Kopitar while Carter is out.
The Kings are back, baby.

Its nice to see them being creative, out there. The passes on Brown's goal and non-goal were awesome.

I mean, sure. A shot from the point is less valuable than a shot from the slot. And teams playing from behind wind up taking more shots.

But the Caps only have two players in the Top 100 in shots. Ovechkin, who is the perennial number one... and John Carlson, who takes those low-value point shots Trotz talked about. I don't see how they can look at what they're putting on the ice right now and be happy with it.

Because Trotz has no idea what to do here without an A+roster. He has players that don't fit his system and he can't (or won't) make adjustments, and we've reached the point on the ride where Barry needs to get off and find a new home to coach to a second round loss.

Barry won't have a problem finding a new home. But I don't know who the Caps will bring in to make anything better.

I think the Caps will stick with Trotz a while longer. The season is off to a mediocre start but I don't think a new coach fixes it, and we've seen in the past that unless they hit gold with a guy like Boudreau, the team is likely going to be worse. Maybe this off-season if things don't go well they look for someone new, but I'd be surprised by an in-season firing.

I think there's 0 chance of a mid-season firing unless there's a complete breakdown where they lose a dozen in a row or players start revolting. MacLellan saw first-hand how the Boudreau firing went and I don't think he's going to make a move unless there is a clear better option on-hand, which I just don't see until at least the off-season.

Imagine if they had Edler/Stetcher back and it was Gudbranson who was injured.

I was entertained by Milbury stumbling over himself trying to reconcile his NO EXCUSES PLAY HARD shtick with being a giant homer for the Bruins and trying to excuse their competition level being caused by injuries.

Dude just couldn't get himself to admit the bruins stunk and the rangers didn't.
