A remake of GTA3 would be the best thing, not because of updated controls, but because of updated things to do. Little me was more addicted to GTA3 than I have ever been to any other game in my life but by the standards of today, there's not much to do. Liberty City Stories kinda gave us the GTA3 experience but with more options. Sadly it sucks so I don't count it.

And I've never played Evil Within but people on here have said it's a David Cage game done right. But now it's the new RE4, too? How can it be two totally dissimilar things?
edit: I'm dumb.

I'm really excited for Horizon 2. Frozen Wilds has really awesome snow tech that doesn't extend to the main game and all the facial animations are really good in this DLC. No weird lip syncing here. It also ties the old world stuff and its themes to current day activities pretty well. Applying all this to the next game among other improvements that come with sequels, it's going to be something special.

It's a better game than the first in every way. It's still got a couple of lovely bits but they're very brief.

Evil Within 2 is a dramatic improvement over 1 in almost every way and requires you to know almost nothing from the first game that you can't infer from like an hour into 2.

I know this thread likes the interactive story games of Until Dawn and such, so I thought you all might find this interview from Extremely Talented Director and Cool Guy Steven Soderbergh about his narrative-focused "not a video game" app called Mosaic interesting.

Same, I loved Vice City and spent a lot of time just driving around with the rock radio looking for good jumps. After that I can say that I spent like 4/5 hours in San Andreas, like 6 on GTA IV and still have to play GTA V. Saints Row II is the one I played the most, followed by SR3.

This is me, except I've had a chip on my shoulder about open-world sandbox games with minimaps ever since I put down San Andreas all those years ago. I completely missed the Assassin's Creed bandwagon (thankfully), never got into Elder Scrolls (thankfully) and couldn't even bring myself to play through Red Dead Redemption (too bad, actually). The last sandbox game I finished was Mirror's Edge: Catalyst...and that's probably due to the fun in that game being entirely based on traversal of territory.

I've even stalled out on Horizon; gently caress, I need to finish it. I always stall out on these games, like clockwork. I think games built around minimap questlines absolutely ruin the experience for me.

Meanwhile, I've put hundreds of hours each into Bloodborne, Dark Souls, and Persona, not to mention Titanfall.

kinda confused on the Frozen Wilds should I just expect 6 hours of side quests or is it a proper Horizon ZD 1.5. I let my friend borrow my copy a while ago but I did get the DLC, excited to play it. No spoilers pls

It's a side plot to the main story, it hooks into it here and there but it's concurrent with all the events from the original game and isn't a continuation from the end.

I can't remember how long it took me, but maybe 8h of mostly doing main quests?

Here is what I wrote on the HZD thread:

ufarn posted:

Managed to finish it. I got completely poo poo on in the beginning, and I still don't know what happened. I think I'm just completely out of practice. Just playing it on Hard.

This definitely felt like "more content" DLC. It's nowhere near as high up there as the base game, and the plot exposition is not great - not that there is that much going on. The writing is excellent, though. It's kind of amazing to play a videogame withuot any cheese in the dialogue.

I will say, they sure as hell did not take the lazy route and just copy assets; no point of the game felt like retreading.

Felt more like Uncharted than Horizon, and I think it goes to show just how strong the writing was in vanilla Horizon to elevate it beyond its great mechanics and graphics.

ufarn posted:

It's possible the DLC may also have suffered from the fact that it doesn't - canonically - take place strictly after the original main story, so the extent to which they could expand on and continue some of the main beats there were probably pretty limited.

I think a lot of us kind of wanted a coda to the main story rather than a side plot like this one, but it's probably not fair to demand that of them.

A lot of love has gone into the side quests, and just about each of them has great characters and a lot of neat ethics and social commentary.

But as far as taking the series further, that's not really what the DLC is.

It's a pretty neat game to drop in with if you want to kill some time and just do side quests, and it never feels like a grind - just like the base game didn't. But you shouldn't be in a rush to get your game back to "find out more".

The Frozen Wilds is basically Guerrilla becoming more comfortable with all the systems already present in HZD and should get you hype AF for Horizon 2: One Noon.
