you guys can't pretend canada isn't special, make fun of people who pretend it is, and then turn it around and pretend we're especially awful. Whatever economic collapse that's coming is gonna make a lot of people unhinged, on top of the opioid crisis that's still escalating will have its own peculiarities but it's not gonna be much different than any other country undergoing a debt crisis. At least we're not in the EU.

I honestly think that at least in Vancouver it will end up making things better for a lot of people long-term when it happens. I've been hearing so much from even homeowners who are going "uh yeah this is kind of getting to the point where the market needs to crash" that when even they start admitting their sweet, sweet equity is causing bad things to happen, things have gone too far.

Weird. I volunteer at the legal clinic that produced that card. A friend of mine made it back in law school, and now they give it to clients who walk through the door. It’s kinda surreal seeing it pop up in this thread. CLASSIC's a pretty sweet organization though. It's a free poverty law clinic on Saskatoon's west side, dealing mostly with landlord-tenant issues, small-scale criminal matters (for those denied Legal Aid), and correctional discipline hearings for poor and marginalized people in Saskatoon. They also run some community/systemic initiatives, like organizing ID drives for the city's homeless and transient population. Day-to-day, they're similar to Pivot in Vancouver, with a staff of a few paid lawyers overseeing law students who handle the files day-to-day, and volunteer lawyers coming in every week to do free legal consultations.
