Serious question for the non-American goons, because I'd like an outsider perspective.

Our representatives' votes and positions are things that can be straight-up purchased by the wealthy and corporations. That used to be sort of an obvious open secret, but now they've just stopped bothering even pretending otherwise.

That's insane, right? Like, that's not something people just accept as the standard elsewhere, is it?

Yeah if the context is "why is CO bad" then core-dumping your middle-school recollection of plants needing CO2 is not exactly going to qualify you for environmental quality expertise.

That always seems like a red herring. The whole israeli situation could be totally non religious and it'd be exactly the same. Like you can put a bunch of religious baggage all over it from all sides but it's pretty straightforward geopolitically why people are the way they are about it.

Here's a European perspective - yeah, it's insane. Multiple governments in my country have historically been brought down because somebody was caught taking money from property developers or other kind of special interest. The idea that you guys just do it openly is :laffo: .

You also spend about 10x per capita what we do on elections. Here you get a bunch of posters, and a few radio ads, and "election season" lasts about a month tops. Candidates don't really have to do their own funding if they're part of one of the major parties, it just comes comes out of the party coffers

Yeah one thing that's not getting talked about is that if / when the tax bill fails there will likely be an irrational market collapse for the same reason there's been an irrational market exuberance for the past year since Trump got elected. There's an upcoming corporate tax cut "baked in" to the current stock market.
