George W Bush got pretty much everything he wanted out of the Blue Dog Dems with the exception of Social Security "reform", and the GOP would have gotten that under Obama if their racist base didn't hate his guts.

MOVIE MAJICK posted:Hey as a non-american living in the US, I'm wondering about this tax reform bill that royally fucks me over. Will it get passed? If it does, when would it apply? It's possible that it passes, but it currently appears unlikely. The House of Representatives has a large ultraconservative wing that has a lot of power, while the Senate has a number of moderate Republicans who don't want to vote for the mess of a bill likely to appear. The bill is Very Bad, raises taxes on middle-lower income people to finance a tax cut for the wealthy and corporations. Currently it's looking like, if it passes, it would be implemented throughout the 2018-2019 period, but the specifics of that I'm not as clear on. Unfortunately, because you presumably cannot vote (I'm assuming you don't have citizenship?) your ability to lobby congresspeople is limited. I suggest you look for pressure groups in your area.

That is an argument straight from Milo's textbook. “Screwed by the DNC death cult” here meaning the West Virginia Democratic Party may or may not have put some stickers supporting a Democratic senator on a table at a fundraiser. Swearingen announced her candidacy a year before the democratic primary. Does that mean the WV Democratic Party shouldn’t be able to fundraise or ever say nice things about Manchin during that time? And if not, what if she’d announced her candidacy in 2016? 2015? The Democratic Party infrastructure has a purpose beyond your fever dreams of coopting a viable party and your need for a convenient villain to constantly explain your losses.

It's clear that they mean during the time period when electioneering by the candidates themselves is allowed. Though if the DNC sent fliers out against you the day before the MA primary, I'm sure we'd all support it. Your point about the source if the stickers remains uncontested though.

Interview with Tim Shorrock, providing interesting details on N. Korea and the history of US relations with them, as well as Neo-Con positioning for war, etc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HCjnLeOpXc Also having read through a whole bunch of the discussion on Prison Labor and Slavery, I don't think I heard anyone point out the Thirteenth Amendment's clause/exemption for prisoners and their relation to it. In that Prisoners can be enslaved, and if you think that's not what happening right now in the country, what with the proportion of black males entering the prison industrial complex, you're pretty delusional. That's a clause that needs to go and a practice that needs to end.

Kokoro Wish posted:That it's better than Destiny. lmao true dat. The messy intra-progressive fight in Charlottesville offers lessons for Democrats across the country. By Dahlia Lithwick, of Slate. quote:Long before the Aug. 12 protest, people like Nikuyah Walker were searing in their criticism of Charlottesville’s City Council, which was accused of selling a rosy fiction about the town as a “world-class city” or the “capital of the Resistance.” Walker, who is a black woman, on Tuesday became the first independent to win a City Council seat since 1948. This upset would have been unthinkable a year earlier. Walker not only defeated a Democrat, Amy Laufer, but also explicitly ran on a platform of “unmasking the reality” of a town in which affordable housing is all but vanishing and services and education for poor and minority citizens are still lacking. Walker has a long background in advocacy and social service and had been challenging the City Council to reckon with its own failures, especially around race and class, for months. Walker was one of a small army of citizens who took over a council meeting after the Aug. 12 rally to excoriate the mayor, Mike Signer, for perceived failures to adequately prepare for and respond to the threats from neo-Nazi Richard Spencer and his followers. I'm here on a F1 visa for grad school. These tax changes make it so our tuition supplement becomes taxable, effectively taxing us double on our already low income. For example, I get a 18500 per year stipend and my school give me free tuition worth about 20,000 a year. My taxes are roughly 3000 a year. These tax changes would make it so I get taxed as if I was earning 38500 income (making me pay 7000$ a year in taxes, 40% of my income!). Graduate students all live pretty close to the poverty line. This is going to make a lot of our lives unlivable, especially foreigners like me who airnt legally allowed to work outside the university.

Would the taxable tuition nonsense apply to student athletes and their 'free' education or are they just trying to gently caress grad students? I haven't been in grad school for 15 years now, and it's depressing to see that the pay hasn't increased since then; although maybe that stipend is different from being a teaching fellow?
