I mean if not, what's the point of pointing this out to tankies? I think it'd be reasonable for them to assume that you're trying to lay those crimes at the feet of Communism specifically, in which case "No, this is a thing that happens in any war" seems like a reasonable response. Unless you can argue that there is something specific about these wartime rapes that can only be explained by Communism. I really just don't get what your point here is otherwise. (I don't know why I am capitalizing "Communism" but it feels weird to stop now.)

Moving right on: I'm on the last few pages of "Towards a new Socialism", i can fully recommend it. They set out to tackle the economic and political failures by the USSR and to offer remedy for it's shortfalls. Full book available here: http://ricardo.ecn.wfu.edu/~cottrell/socialism_book/ It was published in 1993 so some bits might be a bit outdated, such as using "tele-text" for running the planned economy and voting in the direct democracy.
