Cats are too light to set off pressure plates and instinctively step over tripwires. They're like the opposite of a Basji minesweeper.

I like that the idea of using the cat wasn't so it could set off the traps first. Also, they seem to be leaving bombs behind them. Interesting. Also also, https://twitter.com/Orbitaldropkick/status/929144708558766081

Cats are famous for their preturnatural ability to avoid blade walls and trapdoors. I must have gotten a dud though because my cat has trapped himself in a hamper more than once.

Do you know for a fact that the hamper isn't the most practical place to duck out of the way of a blade trap in your home?

It just did an effort assesment and decided that crying for a while was easier than actually figuring out how to get out. FUN DOMESTIC CAT FACT: crying for a while is the easiest way to accomplish anything at all. Especially at 3 am.

Wasn't "thou" the second person singular and "you" the second person plural?

Plural is used for formality in a lot of languages. Compare third and fourth columns ("singular respectful" and "plural familiar") of that table: they're identical in about half the cases. Sometimes with an upper-casing for the respectful variant, though.

White Coke posted:I thought it was informal versus formal, like a lot of other european languages have. It's both. For French, tu is always a familiar singular but vous is either plural or a respectful singular. Which means that English has tragically dropped a method of insulting people by being too friendly. You can call people buddy and pal but it's just not the same.

Russian is the same. Clearly we should bring back thou.

It was fun to have sentences like "I thou thee, thou traitor!" (from Walter Raleigh's trial). Also you can insult people by being too friendly (T) or by being too polite (V). It all depends on your normal relationship.

Ironically, then, "thou" came to be seen as more formal because it's more archaic?
