Currently, Strange votes straight down the line, just the way McConnell wants. There's no guarantee that will happen with Moore, and any attempt to sweet-talk Moore to support something is likely to lose Murkowski/Collins as votes. Virginia's recent elections were a pretty decent indicator of "Random people getting up to talk about issues, and ignoring the culture war bullshit" working. Ralph Northam the Human Valium aside, there were massive upsets because the left's candidate actually talked about poo poo that mattered. I'm cautiously optimistic that a lesson's being learned in organizing and mobilizing people rather than throwing money at think tanks and ad buys.

Funny you mention that, that's the trend people are starting to notice with the DNC under Perez's leadership. https://twitter.com/AlGiordano/status/928358897550839808 Also in regards to candidates campaigning on things that mattered, Danica Roem specifically ran on how bad the traffic was in her district and how she wanted to change that. She ran against the bathroom bills guy, and despite being trans herself, didn't make that the focal point of her campaign. She won, handedly.

Unfortunately we're in the Crazy Timeline and most of the center-right people who have two brain cells left to rub together have jumped ship from the Republican party sometime during the last 15 years. This leaves us with a supposedly left leaning party that's packed full of slightly right leaning political refugees so to speak. How do you compromise and make a party platform when your base is composed of like 3/4ths of the political spectrum?

Speaking of which, https://twitter.com/MooreSenate/status/930128259035082756 McConnell has no pull in the Moore constituency and both of them know it. If McConnell gets a write-in campaign going, Moore is going to lose his poo poo. If Moore loses because of a GOP split-vote, the Bannon wing is going to go even more nuts and try to get rid of every sitting GOP leader. If Moore still wins, McConnell gets to have his feet held to the fire. There's already grumblings among GOP donors that they're going to turn off the money faucets if the GOP doesn't get them their tax breaks: McConnell's position is tenuous at best and adding another lunatic like Moore would only compound the problem.

Donors on both sides are starting to lose their minds. The GOP ones can't get their tax breaks and the Democrat ones are worried that the party will stop rubber stamping GOP business policies.
