QLD Labor going hard on the "Vote for Tim Nichols is a vote for Pauline Hanson" line. This was a huge winner in WA, so not a bad plan to be fair.

When asked about the existence of God, he said yes. Oh yeah, that's the pressing question and not asking how to create a time machine. loving no imagination. Birdstrike posted:Why is it awkward? If you think that negative attitudes to homosexuality are bad and should be countered this sounds awfully similar to telling immigrants to conform to dominant Australian cultural values, although they were only demonstrated to be so in the last 1 day. Conversely, right wingers are now in the awkward position of arguing (as they were during the survey campaign) for the rights and beliefs of ethnic minorities they previously never gave a poo poo about. Just look at the thread over the last couple of weeks saying 'perhaps the real problem is the Chinese' and people getting uncomfortable about it in response.

So do we want more immigrants that hold terrible conservative/religious beliefs or less now? maybe if they just assimilated better it wouldnt be such a big problem.

Considering being open and not racist towards immigrants leads to far better results with regard to integration, there's literally no need to change the left's position.

# ? Nov 15, 2017 05:47 |

The majority of Australians voted yes and there's no reason to believe a conservative immigrant minority will erode that attitude over time, even with increased immigration. The opposite will likely happen. Worrying over this poo poo is irrational, as is blanket condemnation of these communities for not immediately turning progressive within a single generation.

Think what you like about Scomo but he's wedged between the facts as they are and the politics of his base. He has been in his position long enough to have been explained the basics of modern keynesian stimulus and so on such that you've seen him gradually move his base towards greater intervention to stop the slide. i’m worried that you’re overestimating the capacity of the aps to provide strong, independent advice idk maybe it’s different in the central agencies but in my experience out in line agency hell nothing happens unless it originated in the minister’s office; there’s no appetite for providing ‘challenging’ information up the line.
