It's a road that was affected by an earthquake.

If I understand it right, the quake caused water from lower layers of soil to move upwards to already sandy/watery soil. This liquefaction practically turns the sandy/watery soil into a fluid. That fluid-drenched soil responds to the quake as if they were ocean waves. In this case, the watery soil got violently pushed upwards with every pulse of the earthquake.

0.90PF (assuming lagging) doesn’t sound too bad especially for the summer. Has anyone ever thought about putting in switched or stepped capacitors or a synchronous condenser to get closer to unity (1.0 PF)? Depending on how the power company is billing your facility you might be able to save some money in the long run and also improve voltage regulation.

(Just watch out for NASTY switching transients with capacitor banks if they aren’t filtered, potential for bus overvoltage if you have caps in without a corresponding lagging load, and also if you agree with the power company to never drop below a set PF and you do you can get fined.)

I’m a big fan of synchronous condensers (synchronous motors that run highly leading PF, overexcited, with no load attached) but those have a big initial cost and more maintenance associated with them. Plus that’s more for hundreds of kVAs or MVAs of reactive power.

My son sent me this from his job, this morning.

I told him to stay as far away from it as possible, particularly when it was in operation.

He expressed his desire to keep himself intact and stayed on the other side of the warehouse.

Apparently, it's scheduled for maintenance. Soon.

During my M.Sc. in biology a dozen years ago (nothing to do with rodents, but the lab down the hall...) I saw ads like this in every hard-copy issue of every biology journal around. I mentioned one such ad to another grad student who was doing something with mice or rats but I didn't know the details, and he was very happy with the homogenizer they had, apparently they had had some problems with previous devices. What I got out of that was these things are subject to intense commercial competition, with various manufacturers constantly innovating their rodent-blenders and pushing the technology forward.

By now, you can probably puree a rat in under 10 seconds, and the machine that does it costs 1/4 what the best mouse-shredders of 20 years ago cost.

Do you spend lots of time and effort homogenizing mouse femer samples? The Bullet Blender® is a multi-sample homogenizer that delivers superior results. No other homogenizer comes close to delivering the Bullet Blender’s winning combination of top-quality performance and budget-friendly affordability.
This one has gone a different direction - smaller samples (just the femur, not the whole mouse) but multiple samples in parallel.

So they really are making the Bass-O-Matic '76 but for mice.

Not sure what application would be that one would need a rodent that is ready-to-pour, but it's been a long time since I was in a bio lab.

I can't stop imagining this now. The black-and-white scene, with some schlubby, balding rear end incompetently failing at using a mortar-and-pestle to grind up mice, contrasted (with cheesy music) with the full-colour, smiling attractive woman effortlessly succeeding at mouse homogenization while looking only at the camera, just happily grinding mice with a big poo poo-eating grin on her face.

Ground workers were attending the aircraft when one of the main tyres blew at about 22:00L (01:00Z Nov 10th) causing serious injuries to a ground worker and damage to another aircraft parked next to the occurrence aircraft.

The airline confirmed the accident (without identifying the flight/aircraft) reporting the ground worker was taken to a military hospital, where he underwent surgery resulting in the amputation of both legs. The airline stopped operation for the entire Friday (Nov 10th) and expects to resume operations on Saturday (Nov 11th). An investigation into the accident has been opened.
