It was truly loving awful. I recall being on holiday in Turkey maybe when it was at the cinema. Of course this resulted in rolling round markets and coming home with that and Jurassic Park on possibly the worst VHS copy known to man, a camera in the cinema job, poorly focused and blown out because sensors back then didn't do bright light in a dark room and the copy itself was likely 30 generations deep.

The best part of the film was the tiny little Bob-bomb wearing Reeboks

Random music chat.

For many years my favorite 'genre' of music has been European female-fronted metal bands, preferably without any male vocals at all.

So a question I never even thought of was recently answered... What happens when you take 4 already successful female lead singers from different bands (with different styles) and put them together into a single group and have them record an album of covers of various pop artists (Depeche Mode, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Backstreet Boys, etc.)??

The answer is "Exit Eden".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8nafVgHtZ8

The soaring soprano voice is the big blonde, Amanda Somerville. Her and the little latina Marina La Torraca have the best voices by far IMO, but somehow they make the others work well in the mix.

Not sure if anyone else here will like it, but I'm really digging it at the moment.

Also, "Napalm Records" is the best label. :v:

Oh, yeah, thanks for that. I'll need to add them as a seed to my "orchestral metal" Pandora station.

Reminds me a little of Nightwish. I'm behind the times, though. The only bands like that that come to mind are Theatre of Tragedy and Lacuna Coil.

Absolutely. Also Epica, which is where Amanda Somerville comes from.

I'm probably behind on new bands too, but the bands I like seem to have a lot of longevity and all the new ones that I try seem to mix in way too much of the growling/male vocals (Amaranthe would be loving amazing if they would seal the guys mouths shut). Nightwish is what got me into the genre, and their current lead singer Floor Jansen is really good, but they went through a couple duds after losing Tarja.

Within Temptation, Epica, Delain, Domina Noctis, Nemesea, Sirenia and Xandria are some good ones in the style I like.

Yeah, I'm not interested in growling/croaking/gargling either. I can't understand any of it, and it just sounds like inarticulate grunts.

The only downside to playing so much BotW is that I also bought Super Mario Odyssey, and after playing it for maybe an hour I want to keep switching back and forth.

Master sword is cool and all but there are far better weapons. As you just play the game more better weapons will be found. Some bows will shoot multiple arrows while only using "one" arrow from your stash. I have like half a dozen savage lynel bows and they are basically all I use. Get more stamina - it lets you move a lot faster and get a lot more stuff done especially when adventuring around. Beat the divine beasts and get the heart containers that way. Focus on changing the orbs for stamina. Find ore all over the cliffs and sell the ore for rupees. Use the rupees to buy a shitton of arrows and armor. Dude I didn't get the master sword until I had found like 70 shrines or something and defeated three of the four divine beasts. Upgrade your slate asap if you haven't.

Amanda seems to float around and do all kinds of different projects, but I discovered her on an album named City of Heroes which is a collaboration with Michael Kiske.

Probably why I don't have any of their music. With this genre I always try to listen to half a dozen songs and if half of them have growling they don't make the cut. Amaranthe is a perfect example of this. Absolutely phenomenal singer in Elize Ryd and even a good male lead, but they ruin it by having another guy growling in well over half of their tracks. Makes me sad because Elize Ryd is so drat good (also smoking hot).

If you like solid male vocals in this style, Kamelot is great, and is actually from the US, but I think their style is a lot closer to the European rock than anything here.

It was one of my first introductions to that style of music and I loved it. Yeah, it bums me out when a group is grooving right along then someone opens their mouth and ruins it. It's not always the growling stuff - sometime a singer just doesn't fit the style, or just sounds bad.

Drove to Toronto this afternoon and noticed that gas was cheap in the town about halfway there and made a note to myself to get gas there on my way home because I'd probably have to stop for gas as I started the trip with half a tank or roughtly 20L. Ended up leaving the city around 1am, and every loving gas station on the highway was closed, including the cheap place.

Got about 50km away from home when the low gas light came on and I started freaking out because I kept passing closed station after closed station and I did not want to have to call my brother or my folks at 3am to come rescue my didn't-plan-ahead-well-enough dumb rear end. Needle bottomed out while I still had about 25km to go and by that point I was shifting into neutral while going down hills and coasting to slow down for 50km/h zones instead of braking.

Made it to the city here, prayed there weren't any cops as I let the car hit 2x the speed limit going down the hill into the city so I could coast up to the top of the next hill, thank gently caress there weren't any. Got to the gas station and the car dies beside the pump one foot too far back for the hose to reach.

loving thing made me push it the last loving foot. :argh:

According to very rough conservative estimate math though, I drove about 310 km with about 20L of gasoline, or averaged 6.5L/100km. :smug:

If you're driving something new enough to be (electronically) fuel injected, coasting downhill in neutral actually hurts your mileage. When you're coasting in gear, the ECU shuts off the fuel injectors until you drop below whatever RPM the car maker decided upon (usually just above idle). When you're in neutral, the ECU is keeping the injectors on to maintain idle; when you're coasting, the ECU just shuts off fuel entirely. It's a small difference overall, but if you're trying to squeeze every last drop out, keep that in mind.

There's also the small risk that the engine might stall, which is always fun times when you suddenly lose power steering and power brakes.

... that seems to translate to 36 mpg though, which is pretty impressive. :stare: Hypermiling for the win.
