The sahara yellow isn't one of the fantasy yellows, but the other two are. So far I've bought their leather set, these yellows, and some golds. Really loving the paints, and any future projects will probably use them. I want to try their reds, but I don't really want to switch up how I paint red most of the way through my blood angels army.

How do the fantasy colors compare to the scalecolor paints in terms of consistency?

They seem pretty similar. I've only used it in the airbrush so it's the same procedure of thin it with a shitload of flow improver that I do for the scalecolor paints. I do need to find some sort of paint mixer, currently I either need to shake until my arm falls off or clamp them into my drill and run it for a bit.

So I managed to actually paint some models over the past few days. Part of a big push to complete my IG army. That does mean these are mostly the leftovers which don't really constitute whole units, or aren't game pieces I really use in my army much. Did 5 Commissars, in time for their rules change into complete uselessness:

These are a mix of FW Death Korps and the GW metal models, all of which I really like.

This one's my favourite and I've fielded him twice already, as a Lord Commissar with powerfist - he has failed to really do anything either time. He killed a Ravener before being eaten, and then whiffed all his attacks against some marines. Shameful. The plasma pistol Krieg Commissar above showed him up by overcharging a Trygon to death.

I also finished this Uriah Jacobus model. A friend had him lying around and very nicely gave him to me. Will probably use as a basic priest in my army. This is a really cool classic model with loads of fun little details.

Yeah, I probably need to use more flow improver. Even when I get a consistency I think is good, scalecolor paints tend to gum up my airbrush, which reaper and vallejo do not.

Also, for mixing, this is the poo poo: https://www.etsy.com/listing/478331277/typhoon-ultra-2-paint-mixer-hobby-paint

What is your ratio for thinning Scale 75? I have only tried a few colors through my airbrush, and I always wondered if I am thinning enough.

Squirt some flow improver in. Squirt some paint in. Squirt a little more flow improver in since i didn't put enough in at first. Mix it a bunch. Try to spray. Adjust from there. I don't really have a ratio. Probably close to 1:1. It's hard to really over thin it since you can always lower the pressure, I start around 18-22 psi so I have plenty of range to adjust either way.

Collect and paint what looks cool and play causally, my man/woman/honking bird. But yes, Ad Mech can be good without Cawl. Kataphrons can be brutal, the army has the ability to snipe, sweet models, etc. An Onager or two would be a good idea at some point though.

I'm hoping to get some of your thoughts, I'm about 80% complete on this guy and I'm not sure how I want to take the accent color (the tassel and loin cloth). I was originally thinking purple, but now I'm not sure. Green or grey is another possibility - red I've ruled out because it'll take too much away from the orange gemstones.

Tried Kraken today with some stealers, Broodlord, Mawloc, miasma winged tyrant and thirty devourer gaunts at 1k.

Lost the game against Tau gunline because I couldn't work behind the gunline and he staggered his fallbacks well, but it was close.

Mawloc actually hit three units for three mortal wounds each, but got instantly gunned down after that. Tyrant did some damage but Shadowsun melted him after I failed two invuls and I missed a reroll after spending a CP.

Devourer gaunts continue to be insanely good. Shot down a unit of Kroot hounds turn one, a sunshark bomber round two, two Krootox in round three before they got wiped.

Shadowsun made six 5++ in the last turn against the stealer mob, jumped out and double melta'd the Broodlord to finish the game.

Kraken rerolls didn't do anything all game. Doesn't seem anywhere as good as some other options.

Doing more work on my Yella' Boyz to go with my Big Yella' boy. - So I got one of these older Ork Trukks (love the model)

But thought it was a bit weedy, so I took the convertin' tools to it.

Eyeball measurement for operation 'Hold More Boyz':

Just padded the heck out of the tray with plasticard and sprues (love some good sprue recycling). Also a hot tip for making battered scrap metal out of plasticard - Chew it.

Chucked the other trukky bits on, with some added donations from my bitz box, and threw boyz in there - Looking good!

Quick lick of Mech Standard Grey to unify the plastic colours - plus I added some shooty bits.

Now I just needed a suitable driver:

:siren:THECHIRURGEON'S CAMPAIGN UPDATE:siren:

Round 4 of the campaign is in full swing, and this round put me up against the Tau player in our group, who was leading the campaign results with 3 straight wins and a tabling win over BuffaloChicken in week 2 when he brought his then-new Tau'nar to smash up some Genestealer Cultists. We agreed to play a pair of games using the Tau'nar as a campaign setpiece today as part of the campaign. We're currently working with some campaign rules that force TITANIC vehicles to carry wounds between games.

Game 1: Shadow Wars
The first game was a custom Shadow Wars Mission called The Sleeping Giant. You can download the rules for it here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BytebXy3IGRAQW9NOGhMNDVGczA
The setup is that the Tau'nar is being repaired in a hidden hangar, which the Black Legion forces have discovered the location of. They've dispatched a strike force to destroy it or cripple it, led personally by Chaos Lord Molloch. In order to tip the scales in his favor, he's sent his trusted kill team ahead of him, armed with Melta Bombs and orders to infiltrate the hangar and sabotage the titan before they engage it. The mission is similar to the raid, where one kill team is trying to sneak past sentries and destroy a target. We amended the mission rules in 3 ways:
- A successful melta bomb placement would automatically destroy the Tau'nar's invulnerable save in the following game
- Only 2 melta bombs could be placed on the Tau'nar's legs
- Models placing a melta bomb had to roll to hit to place the bomb

I had some extra time this week, so I put together a hangar to play in, and some spot terrain to add color. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

The Tau kill team included a Sniper and a hired Specialist Fireblade

My guys snuck in early, getting into good position thanks to the Tau having a pitifully poor Initiative value that prevented them from spotting me until I was right up on them.

Things went pretty well, with me placing one melta bomb undetected, but went to poo poo when I tried getting up to the second level, and was unable to stop the Tau from sounding the alarm:

Their reinforcements showed up promptly afterward, opening fire on my guys

I managed to plant 3 more melta bombs before their other reinforcements showed up, show down another cultist, and caused me to bottle out on my first test. God dammit!

We resolved the four melta bombs going off and I did a whopping 1 wound. gently caress. On the upside, I took away the Tau'nar's invuln save.

Game 2: Warhammer 40,000 8th edition
Immediately afterward, we played a game of 8th edition, in an updated Escalation mission - Ultimate Linebreaker. You can grab the mission rules for it here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BytebXy3IGRAa3hpdzk5N1lGazQ

I tried to minimize the vehicles I was taking this game to hopefully render the Tau'nar's high damage-output guns less effective. I was fighting at a disadvantage in this one, 75 PL vs. 65 on my end, and really needed to do more damage with the melta bombs prior to the game. To make things worse, the Tau'nar has a loving 2+ BS until it hits like 12W, meaning that I'd be in for a world of hurt. I probably need a lot more lascannons, but had to settle for lots of plasma and autocannons, which is what I had painted (NOTE: I am planning to paint more lascannons ASAP).

I managed to get good coverage early on, but failed to seize. All things considered, the initial volley from the Tau'nar wasn't that bad.

On the other hand, he also had a Crisis Suit commander and 2 squads of Vespids, which dropped in the tiny open space behind my lines that I couldn't cover and proceeded to shoot up my berserkers and Helbrute.

The Helbrute ended up pounding the Crisis Commander with his thunder hammer, while the bolter marines eventually took out the Vespids after they put real damage on my berserker squad. I dropped my meltagun raptors and Chaos lord behind the Tau'nar and used them to wipe out most of the drones and his ethereal on t1 (including 2 repair drones), but failed to kill 2 shield drones and that would ultimately doom me. I held the Tau'nar from moving/shooting out for a turn with my lord, who then got stomped to death. Then I spent a turn and a half futilely shooting at the Tau'nar only to have a single loving shield drone pass a frustratingly improbably number of savior protocol saves, preventing me from doing any damage to the weakened Titan. It responded by opening up on my remaining squads, killing my Vindicator, my Helbrute, the raptors, and another squad in a single turn. By the time I killed the shield drones with bolters, I didn't have enough left to do damage to the Tau'nar, and was forced to concede on T4, having only knocked 6 wounds off the thing.

THOUGHTS: The Tau'nar seems way overpowered to me, but I also got painfully uncommon results during the game, both in shooting (multiple rounds of presience-powered autocannons failed to do a single wound), and in saves (seriously that loving shield drone got 18 straight saves and 6 straight FNP rolls), but I think that's part of the issue--it not only has insane firepower and damage output at BS 2+, it also benefits significantly from Tau drones. I probably overextended with my raptors and lord, and needed more lascannons, but I shudder to think about how the game would have gone if I hadn't removed it's invulnerable save beforehand.

RESULTS: Our Tau player is squarely in first place with a 4-0 campaign record through phase 2 but we have 2 rounds left to go this round and surprisingly, BuffaloChicken can still catch up to him, if he stops slinging jank armies long enough to score a win vs. our Craftworld Eldar player this round. I'm 1-2-1 but hoping to make up some ground in the next two rounds. This was maybe the most fun round of the campaign for me, and it was a lot of fun coming up with the narrative aspects, and building terrain to accommodate them.
