How do you even report that? Last time I checked there was no report reason matching such behavior.

Yeah I remember Gunpoint used achievements for a few jokes. It was pretty clever. Anyway I can understand going for achievements on console since there's a scoring system but Steam achievements do nothing and it's hilariously easy to cheat.

I remember some game having achievements for literally every action so just starting up the game and doing the first clicks would unlock like 20 cheevos.

There were the usual achievements for plot progress but there were also a lot of them were based on playing in creative and obtuse or outright trollish ways like leaving the speaker blaring rock music for the entire game or going out of your way to talk to the founding fathers after they jump out of the window during the fire and getting an achievement lamenting that they never thought to give them unique dialog at the time.

There's one for ringing the bell 100 times, too. The achievements in Grim Fandango remaster encourage looking for missable and obscure bits of dialogue. But there's also one for beating the entire game with tank controls.

Visual Novel effort phone post: Tl;Dr: slam down on your scroll wheel if you don't want to see a whole lot of words about why some anime nerds won't shut up about things. I used to be anime trash. Maybe still am. As others have mentioned, what is considered a "good anime VN" is steeped so much in purestrain anime that if you're not at least partially interested in anime, nothing will pull you in. Even the "good" ones have a giant, throbbing asterisk that goes "WARNING: A BUNCH OF loving ANIME poo poo IS HERE." As for which ones that are considered good: CLANNAD: $50 on steam, this was for the longest time considered the top tier. You're a high schooler and you talk to various girls until they confess to you and you experience tragedy and it's heartbreaking etc etc. CLANNAD is somewhat unique in that it has a few epilogues and side stories with different girls, letting different Waifu fans get their own after story, but even there, it's all contrived drama and faux-philosophical implications on the nature of life, as told by people with eyes the size of my fist. You may be going "but poo poo in high school isn't nearly that important in real life!" That's a common strain in this: it's a complicated sociological thing but tl;dr they adore high school setting for multiple reasons, so all the VNs have you decide your life and sweetheart from high school bullshit. It's $50 because anime nerds are loving idiots and already used to paying a lot for this sort of poo poo. Fate/Stay Night: no official English release of the game, but it's a shitload of words of various historical figures in various genders and states if undress hitting each other for the holy Grail. It can bend in surprising directions and has insane amounts of world building, but as the thread on these forums will tell you, it gets loving WEIRD with how hard the misogyny can go. Like, even for anime trash, fate gets weirdly harsh with how bad the women can get it. Part of it is a byproduct that it mostly wants to be a depressing nihlistic universe where the most you can hope for is to survive the horrible poo poo people can do, but there is no real excuse for some of it. So, "lol, anime." I like it when it's not doing that or the moe moe anime pantsu poo poo, which is depressingly less and less recently. There's a phone game out where you can summon Thomas Edison as a giant muscletiger, and honestly one of the most amusing things to do is just slam in "(historical figure) fate servant" into Google and see what they came up with, but again. Lots of anime to get past. And a loving lot of words, last I checked, Fate/Stay Night held some kind of word count record. Overall, the vns all the nerds rave about are about injecting some kind of drama and story into an otherwise boring life. They want to pretend to be the smart guy that the girls gradually fall for, if they'd just give him a chance. Ones like CLANNAD will have extended vignettes of just dorking around with the group if friends before jumping straight to boning, to give the reader a chance to pretend that they, too, could totally do that. Their high school was totally fun like that! It's just everyone else's fault they're 500lbs and never bathed. And just so this post isn't entirely dumb anime bullshit: Danganronpa: honestly these are legit fun and avoid some of the worst of anime bullshit. Phoenix Wright in high school with a deliberately harsh art style to help underscore the fun/insanity of the universe. Tends to play with "anime bullshit" as a punch line more than push it as a selling point, but it still is, at the core, an anime visual Novel. With a minigame about shooting lies with truth bullets.

Ehhhhhhhh not really Like, you have Shirou being a jackass, but he grows out of it and the universe constantly clowns on him for it Then you have Shinji and his whole deal, but that's less "Nasu hates women" and more "Nasu is trying to make this guy the most mustache-twirlingly evil hateable motherfucker of all time and him being a horrible misogynist makes him more punchable" e: like, yeah, the stuff that Shinji (and Zouken) does is really really loving horrible, but he's doing it to well-rounded characters that exist for purposes other than "to be his punching bag," and every route has an incredibly cathartic bit directed at him quote:Part of it is a byproduct that it mostly wants to be a depressing nihlistic universe where the most you can hope for is to survive the horrible poo poo people can do, but there is no real excuse for some of it. So, "lol, anime." eeeehhhh I also wouldn't really agree that it's a depressing, nihilistic universe; there's a bunch of weird poo poo going on under the surface of the world, but your average person is never even going to see any of it and "do not gently caress with the normals" is a pretty ironclad law of mage etiquette (unless you're a complete rear end in a top hat like Kiritsugu). even for the mages, most of them end up pretty okay in ; it's Fate/zero where everyone dies and everything is always horrible, and that's because they're all explicitly completely loving awful people. quote:And a loving lot of words, last I checked, Fate/Stay Night held some kind of word count record. it's not a record- any listing that includes F/sn is gonna include a bunch of fanfiction and related poo poo that is way longer. with that said though is longer than loving War and Peace, and that's if you only count the common route once WeedlordGoku69 fucked around with this message at 03:43 on Nov 25, 2017 |

Schubalts posted:Waver. yeah, actually, Waver is cool, he's kind of like "what if Shirou wasn't a complete dope" everyone else, Kiritsugu included, is a complete and total dick though to the point where it's kind of hilarious. but that's a Gen Urobuchi thing, and he's not involved in any of the rest of the Fate franchise
