But I think that review also called Molly a mutant, which I'm fairly confident won't be the case. So who knows at this point.

so I'm watching Channel 0: No End House and I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it every review is wanking themselves off about how much better and ~existential~ the show is than the channy chan cuh-reeepy spaghetti linguini but like, the whole Solaris thing just loving draaaaags in its own way. Since this weekend was Punisher it took me a few days to get around to watching Longmire S6. Anyone else watch it all the way through? There's a lot of things this show does well, usually the crime stuff is typically pretty good with Walt being a little too good at his job(compared to everyone else) on occasion. I was annoyed that Nighthorse was actually guilty of something mostly because it made Walt too perfect. I liked the idea that Nighthorse & the Casino simply became the focus of Walt's anger and grief following the death of his wife. Henry taking over the casino in the end was a little too sunshine and rainbows for everyone. There's a scene in the later half of the season where Walt flat out tells Ferg that Ferg inherited Walt's worst trait which is tunnel vision, and I was hoping that would have a better payoff with him and Nighthorse other than him just endorsing the casino and Henry's ownership of it. I never bought the Vic/Walt romance angle either. It was believable from her perspective but not really from his. He was never really a vain character that would care about dating someone for their looks either and I didn't really feel like the past two season built the angle enough from his perspective. Though I guess their 'ending' was more about just enjoying their time together. On the list of other things that weren't built up was positioning Cady as the new sheriff. That was completely out of left field and given her role on the show as being the white link to the Reservation; well there wasn't really a strong enough connection to her solving crimes and such to make the job make sense for her. If we'd had the past 2 seasons since Branch died, building her up as having more of a passion for law enforcement I'd get it but the justification at the end is 'you know the law and can be better at politics than me so you should be sheriff. It felt like it would have made much more sense for her to keep trying to provide legal counsel for people on the Res having done something to rebuild their trust in her. I guess the girl that Ferg was courting was busy doing Star Trek Disco so they couldn't get in her for a finale scene. Poor Ferg I was always pulling for him to end up with Cady or Vic simply because he was good guy and deserved to get an attractive thin girl and eschew typically TV casting of making sure he was still dating someone in his 'league'. Overall the ending was a little flat but the stuff in the middle was mostly good. While I typically prefer my shows serial, this one was best when it was just doing the episodic stuff even if there was the same cliche formula of: crime happens, Walt sees something and has people run around while he runs down a lead and handles private matters, Cady shoves her foot in her mouth trying to do good, Vic gets mad/frustrated at Walt for doing something, Henry takes matters into his own hands, Walt has to be reminded he doesn't have jurisdiction on the Res but goes there anyway, Ferg does all the leg and paperwork then looks puzzled as Walt sees all the information and gets a theory...which turns out to be correct. Basically this would be a good show to play bingo with, but was still enjoyable and boy did they cast the perfect guy to play Walt. RIP Branch Connally; you were too good for this show.

Re: Runaways. So far I'm not in love with the adaptation. Show is focusing way too much on the parents, trying to give them depth and character, but doing so at the expense of building up the kids who should be the main focus. They seemed to cast good teenage/young adult actors so it's a shame they aren't giving them more. Molly seems a bit too old for what the character should be too.

I'm fine with most of the changes so far, but I hope they don't go too far down the road of making the parents overly sympathetic. I'm cool with fleshing them out more in general, though. Other than two of the families being against the rest of them on the DL we didn't get much information about the Pride at all in the comic. It they did the first volume 1:1 it would last like four episodes. My only real worry is that making the Deans basically Scientologists is going to be a weird way to allude to them being aliens in the comics, then have them be something else in the show. But I don't think they'll change that. Hope not, anyway. Aged up Molly seems fine so far. It could get weird later if she acts comic Molly's age all the time, but we'll see. e: i love the scientology angle for the Deans btw esp if their comic origin stays mostly intact

I'd be fine with some back story for the parents but they're going way too far in martial drama. And what's worse is that it feels like it's being done to purposefully extend the source material but is adding nothing to the overall narrative because it's all interpersonal drama that's not related to them being super villains. Molly is a great character in the comics because she's a cute little kid with superstrength with a big nonsense attitude. This version is too adult and full of teen angst.

I just now noticed that The Strain had finished it's run. I saw the first season and thought it was ok. There was room for improvement, but nontheless it was entertaining enough and I was curious to see where it was going to go, so I resolved to re-visit when it was done. In general, how did it turn out? Were there any major increases or decreases in quality or did it potter along at about the same level?
