I’m looking to play 2 audio tracks at the same time, and to keep them both looping. I’ve been using audacity and mixing two tracks together, then exporting a new file to my device every day or two. There’s got to be a less fussy way. Can anyone help?

I’m looking for an app that lets me track all my subscription services in one place. Basically like a glorified spreadsheet. It should tell me how much my anime and dragon porn subscriptions are costing me per month at the very least. I know Mint could probably do this for me but that’s just information overload. Bonus points if it could let me specify different currencies (without combining them; eg “Monthly Outflow: $69 USD + €69 EUR”) because some of the best dragon porn can’t be bought with dollars you know?

(I’m an expat so I pay for Netflix with USD and eg my phone bill with EUR.)

This is actually pretty cool. Maybe I missed it but is there a way to add custom icons to custom subscriptions? Or baring that is there a form to suggest new accounts anywhere?

"Create custom subscription" button is at the bottom of the screen when you add a new one. And you can choose an icon from the included collection, set a custom color etc. You can also contact the developer to add a service to the pre-made list.

Edit: I can't read, sorry. No custom icons that I know of, but you can still contact the dev, they seem pretty responsive.

God damn it, you've got to be kind.
I have a weird Apple Watch problem with phantom alarms. I had two alarms set on the watch. One that would go off at 0415 every weekday, and one at 0730 every weekday. The watch would be in the charger and begin to sound until I tapped the face.

If I wanted to turn the alarms off for a day I would just toggle them in the watch Alarm interface. No sweat.

Recently I replaced my phone and re-paired the watch. This week I was taking a few days off so I toggled both alarms. I noticed that at 0415 and 0730 while in the charger the watch would buzz twice and then go quiet. I deleted both alarms and it still happened. I recreated the alarms but set them for Monday only. Still did it. Asked Siri to clear my alarms. She said I didn't have any.

I deleted the alarms un-paired and re-paired the phone. This morning it still did it!

I have no other apps that could be doing this. I've never set an alarm for either of those times anywhere else.

DT, do a complete do an Erase All Content and Settings on the watch. At this point there's nothing to lose.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204567

quote:

  1. Keep your watch on its charger until you complete these steps.
  2. Press and hold the side button until you see Power Off.
  3. Firmly press the Power Off slider, then lift your finger.
  4. Tap Erase all content and settings.

I can't think of anything that doesn't work off of WiFi. I know there's an Android app for AirPlay to target, but that and any local file sharing needs WiFi to work. Is there any way you can use some portable storage to physically connect to the tablet?

I just checked and there's no way to turn on Personal Hotpot (to make your own jury rigged local network) without a cellular connection.

Apple Music is superior at management for iOS since it’s built into the Music app and it has releases at 11PM instead of Spotify’s 12AM. Aside from that, Spotify is way better for me.

Spotify has custom playlists that actually fit very specific vibes. Studying and only want instrumentals made with video game inspiration? Spotify has that. Need some hard hitting hip hop to sip tea to? Spotify has it. Apple Music has playlists but they’re always and consistently rear end and I have no idea why since Beats Music had AMAZING playlists.

Also, it should be noted that Spotify sucks as a media player and is solely good for playing music in their catalog. Getting music from your personally stored library to pop up in Spotify is a drag and a half. Apple Music destroys Spotify in this field which is a huge feat given how much of a shitshow iTunes continues to be.

That said, Spotify can be had for 2.50 a month which is half as much as you’d pay for Apple Music at its cheapest.

Spotify does this dumb bullshit where your listens in the weekly discovery playlists have an effect on the songs that show up in your discovery playlists and doesn't offer any thumbs up/down control for them so it deviates further and further from what you like the more you use it.

It's pretty high up on the list of stupid poo poo I've seen software do and I use IOS so that's saying a lot.

I really want to like iTunes Radio but jesus gently caress it's bad. Like really, really bad. It forgets / straight up doesn't track poo poo I like. Even if I dislike something, it will continue to throw poo poo from the same artist/album I just disliked. You can see what you've liked/disliked in the off chance you misclick. You can't manage or curate the station manually. Unless I'm missing something right now, you can't even see the stations on iTunes on your mac.

Apple Music is fantastic if all you're looking for is to grab an album and listen to it. But the station/curated content is beyond bad.

Agreed with the radio.

However if you take the time to "heart" music you like, the weekly playlists under "For You" are on point. It does take some time before you really start seeing results. But I just started leaving player open on the computer at work and hearting stuff there throughout my day. It's a bit more of a pain if you're playing music on the phone and doing something else.

That’s the other thing. Loving/hearting music on the phone is abysmal. I mainly listen to music during my commute and I’m not going to gently caress around with either 3D Touch or finding the sub menu they buried that option in. It’s the only reason I haven’t used For You as much as I should.

I used AM for a year or so and it had my music tastes nailed down pretty well EXCEPT it seems like it doesn’t take into account my own personal music, and whether or not I hearted/rated that stuff. I have a ton of old 80s music like Oingo Boingo that never showed up in that Favorites playlist it makes, and poo poo that I had to forcefeed down AMs throat until it started recommending that kind of stuff even though David Bowie’s “Heroes” has almost twice the listen count in my personal library than the next song.

Also regarding AM vs Spotify I appreciated that the playlist names weren’t garbage in AM. It’s just “early 90s hip hop” instead of “Gold School” or whatever.

they don't even need to use the handoff ui; just do what spotify does where it remembers what you're playing, and your play position, between clients

if you use windows i can't recommend apple music. the spotify app is essentially a web app running in a customized chrome window with all the weird resource hogging and non-native ui that that entails, but it has one thing on itunes for windows. it actually loving works most of the time. itunes for windows seems to have been made by people for whom 'just turn it off and on again' is an acceptable interaction. use it for apple music for any length of time and you end up constantly faced with pages not loading (with a perfect internet connection) and having to jump through hoops to refresh them, or the ever-present bug where it will just occasionally up and refuse to play any tracks until you restart the app. it's a loving terrible piece of software.

itunes on osx is still a bloated mess but it's generally pretty reliable and works ok. there's also some nice integration with siri and the like. the ui is still absolutely bizzare and strange tho; the thing has these non-standard back and forward buttons that don't appear in any other app, which behave about as well as the android back button. will they take you up a level in the category you've chosen? will they take you back to the previous screen? will they shoot you over to another category? will they just put you on a random page you have no recollection of? you can get used to it, but it's not even close to a good experience

regardless of the under-the-hood technical merits of retiring itunes from active development and splitting it into component apps, the fact is from a general user interface perspective it is not fit for purpose in its current form. the app simply does too many things. the app has a sidebar, a dropdown menu for types of media, a category picker, and browser-style back and forward buttons, in its current incarnation. it's a mess.

e: with respect to spotify it's apparently full of trackers on android and is likely the same on ios, so that might be something to consider if you care about that kind of stuff

POCKET CHOMP posted:

it should be an option on the now playing screen. the fact that it isn't, and the fact that it was an option that was subsequently removed, belies their lack of confidence in their recommendation algorithm to actually recommend relevant stuff.

xzzy posted:

i did forget that using siri was an option, so that's genuinely appreciated. though on an infinite timescale any discussion among apple users involving siri, itunes, or apple music is going to quickly degenerate into a whiny philosophical discussion i'm afraid

e: if you're on the ee network in the uk they're offering (or at least were offering) 6 months free apple music, which softens a lot of its flaws in my eyes.

also if you use itunes on osx and last.fm, i heartily recommend neptunes. it's really reliable at scrobbling local music on itunes as well as apple music, has a really nice now playing widget you can put on your desktop, and the widget has a very prominent 'love' button (accidental innuendo but gently caress if i'm changing that) that adds the current track to your loved tracks on apple music and last.fm simultaneously. it's the most elegant way i've found to do it and doesn't require going into a submenu or using a keyboard shortcut that may or may not work

also quietscrob is the most robust scrobbler i've found for the ios music app, though it's still not reliable enough to actually trust tbf

also follow me on last.fm
