So I beat Episode Prompto and just loving laughed, because it broke during the credits. Just with him floating like a hundred feet in the air with the camera blurred, but you could still move it while the credits rolled... and then he vanished, his guns still floating in the air, and it was like the game froze for a couple seconds before suddenly the cutscene of him talking to Noctis loaded. XV is kinda amazing.

I had forgotten that in FF13 they added lyrics to the Chocobo song. I had also forgotten that the vocals for this version of that song are auto-tuned. My brain clearly suppressed these memories.

Oh boy flashbacks to that one huge weirdo who insisted the tropical parakeet Chocobos were a reference to DMC Dante and how the plot of ffxiii made perfect sense if you read the game's version of the silmarillion and caught some random bit of bg scenery and would brook no argument

I never read them my first time through but I'm taking the time to read all of them this time and yeah some of them present facts that aren't mentioned at all in cutscenes. Some of the datalogs even make small but important retcons to some of the cutscenes. It's really bizarre how this stuff made it in.

Once you understand, accept, and internalize that all of the FF13 stuff exists solely to make Lightning more powerful and successful and good, because she's the best and greatest and never wrong even when she's wrong, FF13 then becomes a good game from the perspective of these enlightened individuals.

So, remind me what's happening in the big FFXV cutscene where the city blows up? I tried to play this when it came out and I remember being confused then, too. Like, yeah, Ignis is explaining it, but the big giant murderbeast and the sicck2nasty Kingdom Hearts fight? Whuh? Basically, I need to know that the treaty went bad and the king is dead, right?

The treaty was a setup, the King knew it was a setup, the Emperor knew he knew, and the resulting kerfuffle ended with the King dead, the city sacked, and the crystal stolen, but Luna was able to make a getaway. The murderbeast was the Empire's trump card, since they like to airdrop monsters into warzones. It was beaten down with the power of the Ring but the damage was so great that it didn't matter much.

The game expects you to use them and not doing so makes it infinitely more annoying than it already is.

It has cool looking time travel with someone screaming paradox every five minutes, a fairly satisfying monster gathering/dressup system and an extradimensional casino where you play a poker game featuring a spinning 13-hour clock. Also you are constantly told that time travel has horrible consequences and while you're expecting all of that to amount to nothing like 13-1's big hyped up dilemma it turns out, in every ending, that your time travel has horrible consequences. It's not great but it does enough right to be good.
