(I realize this is probably not a very ‘new’ opinion but I’m not much of a gamer so leave me alone). Unpopular opinion: I feel like 90% of YouTube video game critics and the like are mostly just whining about parts of video games they found personally hard or frustrating and just want to whine about said parts as a detriment to the game. Therefore most of these critiques can be resolved by a healthy dose of ‘getting good’ (source: watched a long winded ‘retrospect’ of Sonic 2 [a game I know like the back of my hand] on YT a while back and most of his criticisms were whining about the level design in Hill Top Zone or something).

Yeah diablo just went downhill after the first one. It was actually tense and cool. Diablo 3 is just a lame dress up party. Is that an unpopular opinion? Diablo 3 was a truly horrible game. Everything about it is insanely boring.

IMO Diablo 3 was bad, then fun for a little while, then tedious. At first it was just a grind where you always got crap items and were expected to bid real money to get anything usable. Then they "fixed" it so gear would drop with actual worthwhile stats and you could craft and reroll stuff. It's fun for a little while to just mow through all the increasingly ridiculous swarms of enemies and get bigger numbers, and unlock busted abilities. But eventually I realized that you don't need to care what any enemies are, because you can either tank through anything or melt anything before it touches you, or both with some classes. The only time you even notice what you're looking at is when a boss is making GBS threads out those laser traps or freeze bombs. Diablo 2 wasn't a perfect game, but you had to dodge stuff, target enemy spawners and guys that raised the dead, and consider what damage types and status effects you and the enemy were using.

oh yeah diablo 1 actually had enemy variation the only game that has gotten close to the itch I felt playing diablo 1 was Dungeon Siege and its expansion, only the first one though it really sucks that they haven't fixed the game for modern systems and that they killed the multiplayer for it because its an awesome game thats great for a playthrough

Also agreed Fire Emblem is nonsense. it's supposedly a strategy RPG but there is pretty much no strategy to be had outside of trying to find an ideal angle to attack from and 90% of the game is just watching cutscenes and battles.

I have no horse in this race because I don't really care about LOTR and I thought Shadow of Mordor was pretty mediocre, but everyone who has actually played Shadow of War seems to think the loot box drama is super overblown.

There's not time to even try to close the game for most; people begin portaling as the room's horde came out, and running. Just as I got to the exit, the fast rear end monsters caught up, swarmed me, and I heard my death scream My forehead hit the desk, then I heard the music from the overworld. I look up, and I'm standing outside of Tal Rasha's tomb with exactly 1 hitpoint. Literally the sole survivor. There wasn't even anyone left to try to go get the gear. We were all like level 90 something at this point so we're talking like 40-50 hours invested minimum into each character in that slaughter, so pounded some healing potions and figured I'd quit for the day, that was straight up the closest I've ever had to a horror movie experience in a Diablo game. ED: My 2nd favorite experience in Diablo II was going an act too high for my level with the same character and everyone telling me I was committing suicide and was a total noob since I didn't have a l337 build like them... then they all died to freaking Rakanetu and I took all their poo poo. Both feature the same Angel but in one he's a badass otherworldly character and in the other he's some monologue heavy truth and justice Warhammer guy with his animeish super-special chosen one girl. Everything about Diablo 3's tone is wrong.
