Sniper Party posted:Apparently coming off anaesthesia is really uncomfortable for dogs. Mine was absolutely miserable and whining for the entire night after he was under for a short operation and he's an idiot terrier so he'll basically only whine if he's in massive pain or feels incredibly bad. Is that an Australian Terrier?

Soviet Commubot posted:I like to think my gimmick is one of the less offensive ones. Welsh has a habit of being fairly literal with naming things that are either similar to other things or just a particular breed, which probably helps with some stuff being mutually intelligible. Like our word for rat is 'llygoden mawr'. It translates as...big mouse. I have no idea what I'm meant to say when I encounter an actual mouse that happens to be large.

I just tried sounding out the phrase 'llygoden mawr' with my extremely limited knowledge of how welsh works and had the mind-blowing realisation that the welsh word for 'big' is almost identical to the irish one (mór)

Soviet Commubot posted:I don't know here I read this but I read somewhere that the ancient Welsh believed that elves or something similar ("korriganed" in Breton which normally translates to elves in English) used to ride them into battle. I think it was fairies, not elves. Although I'm now totally imagining Orlando Bloom as Legolas riding a giant corgi into battle.

Capybaras are basically dog-sized guinea pigs (and also probably some of the chillest animals on the planet) so this seems fitting.

Fact: Chinchillas are so fluffly that they can’t take regular baths. Their fur is so dense that if it gets wet it never dries out. Instead they take dust baths. https://youtu.be/4dGWP3MxdI4
