I still wont believe this until his first presser with his crazy-assed Cajun accent going nuts. I would not be surprised given the large amount of idiot former students with the cash to give him that kind of contract though. Of course, if we give him all that money and we finish lower than fourth in the West the gnashing of teeth would be glorious.

I'm very skeptical of this, but if true it's certainly bad news for the rest of the SECW.

People were laughing at SEC buyouts (Bert, DACOACHO) earlier this season, but this has gotta be the best one yet.

Holy poo poo that Todd Graham buyout. Might as well have just kept him.

Also I don't see why ASU couldn't be a top Pac-12 program: Huge school, close enough to California, no academic standards, Tempe is a fun city, etc.

I'm curious if UT's BOV or whatever they have might use this to boot him. I'd imagine this is probably his last football hire regardless so if he maybe didn't have some fans on the BOV I wonder if UT would maybe make a move.

It’s not going to happen, but say Aggie does go out and get Jimbo.

What does Florida State do? We just saw a comparable program in Florida go through the carousel and end up with Mullen (who will be good but likely wasn’t the first choice). Would there be anyone out there who will be available to Florida State who hasn’t been connected elsewhere? I feel like that’s a pretty sweet gig if not a crown jewel program.

Would really depend. FSU is obviously a top tier job, but they haven't openly searched for a football coach since like 1976. I would guess they'd attract a lot of name from the mid-to-lower P5 ranks and anyone who's been connected to the program.

Not that anybody's going to back him now, but the AD's not going to make a hire unilaterally if there's not support, or at least if there's universal strong resistance from the president/BOR/boosters/etc. Somebody's looked at this and said, "yeah, sounds alright to me." To be fair, it's not like Schiano experienced a lot of blowback when that testimony was unsealed, they probably just didn't see this coming.

I think Mullen was the target, but he waited on UF to hire someone first. This was a tone deaf backup plan.

Former Jimbo assistant. Has established a winning program in the SEC from nothing. Can draw from knowledge from a former national title coach.

From the various reports, he's going through a somewhat ugly divorce. So if he leaves, seems like it would be entirely personal reasons.

He's getting paid like 5.7/year and FSU would have to pony up like 40m to fire him, so I can't imagine it's leveraging -- but his name has kept coming up for this job for like two weeks now.
