Speaking of Captain Cold, how was that Flashpoint: Citizen Cold miniseries? I hated the main Flashpoint miniseries, but I wouldn't mind reading about Snart being a good guy, even if it was an alternate reality.

Are there any more key stories about Captain Cold or the Rogues being awesome?

:laffo: sorry, don't mean to laugh, but would you believe Citizen Cold is an even shittier dude than Captain Cold because Flashpoint is hot moron garbage from head to toe?

Hey, I didn't know. But I'm not surprised to hear it sucks, because I hated Flashpoint so much, especially since it caused the entire New 52 (unless of course that's all Dr. Manhattan's fault now!)

So is he your typical Ultimates-style rear end in a top hat-as-hero, or is he a bad guy presenting himself to the world as a hero, a la Zemo-era Thunderbolts, or what?

It totally is, Rebirth absolved Barry completely. Which they sorta had to do, since Barry Allen, Time-Traveling Mass Murderer was not a good look.

I thought most people liked Thomas Wayne as Batman? But then again it has been the better half of a decade since I read that.

The latter.

He's supposedly Flashpoint Central City's answer to the Flash: even though just like Thomas Wayne and pretty much everyone in the frowny face timeline, he's totally fine with killing and maiming criminals, unlike Batman they still built a Citizen Cold Museum because they like him so much. After Lisa Snart kills their shitbag dad, Wally West, sans powers in this timeline, finds out that before he was one of America's most prominent heroes, Citizen Cold was just lowly street criminal Leonard Snart. For this, he murders Wally and pins it on Mister Freeze.

In spite of this, Leonard still meets his aunt Iris for dinner, which is interrupted by the Rogues capturing Lisa. She dies before Cold can save her, and he barely escapes back to Iris. When he recovers, she leaves him her key for when he's done going Punisher on the Rogues, which he does. When he finally reunites with Iris, the Pied Piper is there, having revealed it was Cold that killed Wally, and when Snart goes for the Piper, Iris ices him with one of his own guns.
Fin.

Yeah, I really didn't like Citizen Cold.

Like Flashpoint is fine as an AoA style "really crappy but different alternate Universe." The big problem with it is it doesn't stick the landing of an ending with the hastily added Pandora/ reboot the universe stuff.

But Citizen Cold was really bad. It had great Scott Kolins artwork. But It was Scott Kolins first story and it's really bad.

So in the Flashpoint universe there are few heroes. The world is on the verge of collapse due to a war between Atlantis and Thymiscara. Super villains run rampant.
In such a world, one that desperately needs anyone willing to fight for people, Snart should be forgiven for his past crimes.

But no apparently the fact he used to be an armed robber is enough of a dark secret that Snart becomes really unlikable and kills yo maintain this secret. It makes no sense.

Gorilla Grodd had taken over all of Africa! People aren't going to care that you used to rob banks. It's the end times out there, just be an anti hero.

So since it was Scott's first work as a writer it might explain why it was bad.

I think his first solo writing work was a (weird, disjointed) Solomon Grundy miniseries in 2009.

So what's the word on New 52 Superman/Action comics? I've decided to start making my way backwards through Superman stuff and I'm all caught up on Rebirth. I know N52 was pretty rocky for the most part, but is any of the Superman stuff worth reading in retrospect?

As an addendum to this: is Superman: Earth One any good? I've heard a lot positive buzz surrounding it, but it seems like the kind of book that the response could be pretty mixed on.

Also, thanks to everyone who answered my earlier question!! And sorry for not thanking you earlier. :shobon:

I don't actually think any of the Earth One books are any good. Wonder Woman I haven't read, Morrison's usually great and it seems at least interesting. But Batman and Superman are both just terrible.

I wonder what DC's next ill-fated bookstore oriented publishing initiative that reimagines and modernizes (in an outdated Ultimates-esque way) the origins of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman will be called

I haven't exactly been a part of the fandom for a while now, so...this really shouldn't shock me, but it's still weird to me that they're basic a book on a toy line, even though the audience is in their 30s and 40s.

Green Lantern Earth One, where Hal looks like an astronaut from Interstellar and is a more sci-fi take on the universe looks really good. I will give that a read when it comes out.

I know they changed her costume ages ago but I much preferred Spider-Woman's (Jessica Drew) original costume. Has there ever been a costume change in Marvel/DC/A.N. Other that has been universally reviled so much that the change has been reversed or the creator has doubled down in humiliating fashion?

Spider-Woman's original costume was better but the new one is harder to draw as if it was painted onto a nude porn star so hey.

I honestly forget which storyline it was, but at one point Tony had to time travel and when he dropped by his lab he was dismayed that the only costume available was the nose one.

Wonder Man is notorious for having a series of lousy costumes, but eventually--I think it was in Mighty Avengers--the Avengers staged an intervention to get him to change out of his safari jacket.
