I think Heavy Rain is a pretty cool experience if you're not expecting some amazing tour de force like it was being hyped as. It's a decent adventure game. And yeah, it has the David Cage-isms like short haired girls in their underwear and being able to pee in toilets and stuff and the weird accents in the voice acting. I dunno. I enjoyed it. I think it's worth playing. Something I'm not enjoying, however, is Horizon Zero Dawn. I feel like I got roped into the goon hype and I'm very dissapointed with it. I feel like your traversal options suck, the combat feels clunky, there's no sense of discovery, visual glitches pop up everywhere, and I'm tired of looting crafting items off the ground every five steps. What do people see in this game that makes it so great? I realize I just praised a David Cage game and disparaged a well loved game in the same post, but.

Well I can see your point. I enjoyed Heavy Rain during my first and only playthrough. Horizon quickly got old and I've still got lots to do... I wish it had been there from the start but when I got the chip in Nier A that automatically picks stuff up from the ground... It was glorious. So good. Wish Horizon had something similar. And didn't have limited inventory space which is NEVER a fun mechanic in loot-heavy games. Renoistic fucked around with this message at 19:42 on Nov 27, 2017 |

Luceo posted:I have not. david cage games are kinda trashy fun in the way bad b movies are. it's like someone took a choose your own adventure novel and turned it into a low budget movie with underpaid, amateur actors (well ok beyond two souls had real big name actors but they seemed just as confused about why they were there as I was) make no mistake tho; cage games are pretty bad. the core gameplay conceit is pretty interesting but you could just play until dawn instead. go in with low expectations for the plot and you'll still be disappointed. also cage is a lizard man that has never even met a woman, let alone experienced a romantic emotion, and thus the romances in his game are unfathomably bad

I assume he gets all his romance tips from watching porn. Beyond was the worst though because the guy was an utter rear end in a top hat and you can shoot him down at every opportunity but the story demanded they shack up. I think you can get him killed eventually though.

The weirdest bit in Beyond is when you go and live with some American Indians for a bit and help them fight off a demon.

What do people see in this game that makes it so great? you're kind of saying you're experiencing the direct opposite of pretty major reasons people are enjoying/have enjoyed it, which is fairly strange but I could see someone expecting something like Dynasty Warriors or Soulsborne in the combat and coming out feeling it to be clunky by comparison. Sometimes a game doesn't click, and that happens often since the game experience process is inherently subjective. The same could be said about the climbing part if you're coming off Breath of the Wild or an AssCreed game where almost everything is climbable and you have grappling hooks and stuff. Most loot is super abundant in-game and you are kind of driven to be choosy rather than always be picking everything up, but that's not typical of most games and isn't driven home as a factor of gameplay by anything other than maybe your inventory size. Can't speak to the visual glitching part, though, it's being hailed even by other developers as an incredible game on a technical level, like frame timings and foliage density and stuff.

Boy howdy am I glad I got Lost Legacy for free because it is a horrendously poorly designed game. I'm currently being repeatedly respawned standing in the middle of a firefight with 3 guys shooting me because I keep dying on this bit due to another guy shooting at me with a rocket launcher. I presume it was the Naughty Dog b-team that worked on this?

I wish I'd been there in the heydey of online, but I was at least fortunate to have done a bit of co-op and invading before they went away, some time ago. If there is one thing that I am really happy I got to be there for, it was the release of Demon's Souls. Invasion working exactly as intended without a bunch of PVP builds built off of a wiki. No voice chat. Best time I've ever had playing a game. I've never been so intimidated by a game. Souls wasn't a meme it was just this weird game everyone was trying to figure out. I hope something else recaptures that for me someday.

It's ironic how we never really got a Soulsborne game that had an online co-op that worked as well as Demon's Souls. Still my favourite in the series by a mile.

I’ll say this much, it’s not as though they sold you an incomplete game and kept the important stuff as DLC. In fact, the game is a much better thematic experience without it.
