When my mother was dying, my entire family filled my house, and I disappeared to play video games because if I didn't I felt like I would loving lose it. I literally did not know any other way to react. Grief is a very strange animal and I learned that it takes a lot of forms. I didn't sit next to her bed crying and making deals with any god that would listen, but for weeks and months afterward I would cry at the drop of a hat. Every time I heard a song by a band she loved or saw a picture of her I would turn into a blubbering mess.
