Thankfully the kid they picked has put on like a foot since they started, so that helps a lot.

And I was the one who didn't give much of a poo poo that Superman merks a dude, I was more offended that Pa Kent literally has an aside with young Clarkand literally tells him to murder children over risking his secret identity. But, holy poo poo how loving presumptuous do you have to be to cut from Supes breaking a dudes neck after destroying half a city to "this is the new, hopeful way forward for the Synderverse". I'm trying to figure out if you're hypberbolic about the Pa Kent thing or you're actually serious, because that scene literally didn't happen.

As of now, it's straight up at the bottom of the DCEU. It'll always feel like a movie that people really want to like, so they'll just ignore whatever is wrong with it. They could pretty easily do it without, but assuming they're going with the investigator angle he was put in, I could certainly see a desire to go with an R rating. Plus there's been at least one scene where he killed a bad guy in self-defense by spawning a dupe inside him so he explodes, which would be really gory.

He tells young Clark that he doesn't have to save everyone, and shouldn't, because his identity is more important than saving kids after he does the bus thing and nearly blows his cover. Which is the exact same as murdering them, since Superman can (through no risk to his own safety) save people, say, stuck in a sinking bus trivially. Like, that's what murder is: enabling death through your own (in)action.

Pa Kent cares more about protecting his son from the world than his son protecting the world. That's good characterization. He just doesn't want to lose his son. And he shows his real values in the tornado scene.

Pa Kent also didn’t want Clark to play football, lowering himself to ball boy status. He wasn’t put on this earth to score touchdowns or save people from tornados apparently.

I agree that having him say one thing to protect Clark and then having his actions contradict that in a moral and heroic way was the intent, but I don’t think the movie sold it very well at all and especially because Superman could have saved him so easily. I think the only way you could really execute that is for it to happen when Clark isn’t around, so that the only reason he can’t save Pa Kent is because he didn’t know. Of course then you’re telling and not showing, but you can’t have it both ways without doing some irreparable harm to Supes as a character.

Why do people get so hyped though? I mean I like the marvel movies but most of them are very lukewarm experiences and mediocre movies. There's really nothing there to get hyped about The first avengers was cool because I had not seen anything like that before (tons of main characters from their own movies coming together in one movie etc) but now it's old hat
