We aren't talking about official mods or addons, We're talking about the ability to see people's outlines through walls, infinite health, infinite ammo, aimbots, etc.

Unfortunately for game companies like this they basically have to target the 'just for fun' hacks as well since the ability to change models so you're playing as a naked vocaloid also means you can do things like replace your opponents with 30 foot tall giants with headshot hitboxes the size of cars and it's entirely too much effort to try and nail down how much hacking is too much hacking. If you're modifying the code in a way they do not officially support they're well within the EULA to bring the hammer down on you.

Blizzard tends to handle mods well with World of Warcraft. I don't think they've ever told a mod maker to take down a mod (unless it was actually cheaty) they just change some code they don't want mods to have access to.

There were mods that would get you banned if you used them, I seem to remember one that could give objects in the game the model of different ones. For example, you could change a campfire (the size of, well, a small campfire) into the Dark Portal (huge-rear end stone structure). The idea was, you could stand on the campfire, change it and be high up in the air so you could jump off it into areas you weren't supposed to be able to access.

Speaking of World of Warcraft and Schadenfreude, the initial coding for that game was almost nothing but. Like questing. At first, and for a long time, there were only two ways coded in to complete a quest. Kill and/or collect. So you either had to kill a creature (or X number of creatures) or collect an object (or X numner of objects) to complete a quest. That was the only way quests were programmed.

So when they wanted to put in different types of quests, that was a problem, and boy did they find a solution : Bunny genocide. Every time they made a quest with a different objective than kill/collect, like, for example, "go to this location" , when you got to the location, the game would spawn an invisible bunny, kill it, and count that to complete your quest.

Fake edit : They're stil doing this !

There's a quest in the exodar where you have to blow up a bunch of portals, if you rotate your camera around to the back you can see the invisible bunny silhouetted against the explosion effect it's creating.

From this we can infer that its invisibility is caused by fooling the camera, and not by violating the laws of physics by bending light, or consisting purely of living transparent materials.

I can understand that viewpoint but there's certainly a middle ground between 4 years and death by hanging. Of course it's all somewhat moot considering the guys age, he will most likely die in the next 4 years.

Sure, but two points.
1. "I was following orders" can never be a valid excuse for monstrosity. Sure, he just vacuumed the rugs every week, but he never even tried to alter the evil surrounding him.
2. The higher-level, actually-guilty-of-horribleness people cannot be allowed to disguise themselves as clueless, irrelevant low-level flunkies. The guy who washed the delivery trucks that went to the camps goes to jail, if for no other reason than we can now watch him and have access to him to check his story.

He spoke of witnessing an SS soldier murdering a baby, and how the treatment of the prisoners had "horrified" him.

But he said that at the time he believed that killing Jews - including children - was the "right" thing to do.

quote:

He says Mr Groening "shields himself" from taking full responsibility, by referring to the power of family beliefs and propaganda, but that he does not claim to have purely been following orders.

"He carried on working at Auschwitz not just because he was ordered to but because... he thought the extermination programme was right.

"It's just that that 'right' then turns out not to be 'right today'."
