You mean Chinese and Venezuelan governments? We have a ton of people from Venezuela at work who use bitcoin to illegally send money back to their family.

COMMENCE THE RITE OF SHITPOSTING

I'm getting tempted by this, and I know its a stupid stupid investment :(

Probably the most prudent thing to do is wait for the bubble to burst and buy like 100 bucks worth of bitcoins when it hits rock bottom (and put it on a thumb drive or something like that). If somehow internet nerds still feel the buttcoin urge I can then cash out for a hefty chunk of change in a year or so; If not well hey I'm only out 100 bucks in the end.

What's wild is how bitcoin can make unsophisticated people somehow nonetheless feel sophisticated about the mechanics of finance to the point where they'll tell you in the dumbest possible terms how unsophisticated their understanding and reasoning is.

Paying with mobile/digitally is the popular thing to do in China so I always assumed the ban was largely because the gov’t wanted to track where money was going.

it was down for about 20-30 minutes earlier but it's running fine at the moment

the same thing happened at the bottoms of the crashes to 1750 and 3000 earlier this year

i heard that fidelity and rbc also had problems today around the same time, interestingly

early this morning i had a market buy that didn't execute which cost me a little potential profit, but when the exchange actually went down completely i was all USD

there was actually not much volatility when the exchange came back, i think btc, eth, and ltc went up about 1% but that was it. there had been a big dump before that, but the exchange didn't stop working until the consolidation phase when the volatility had already died down, so i don't think it caused too much trouble for traders

Definitely a stable store of value, just as valid as gold, not manipulated like those faux currencies end the fed.

But even if it is manipulated, it's the fault of bad people, not the currency itself.

You likely wouldn't have been able to buy a bitcoin last week, because you'd still be figuring out how to get your payment authorized and get your transaction to go through. Assuming you picked an exchange and not some shady direct method for converting currency.

But if you have the cash, go play day trader. Bitcoin is so volatile it's a great way to learn investing.

...like how most of that profit would have been eaten up by fees and opportunity costs.

If you feel confident that you can get in and out before the bubble pops go for it. It’s not that no one will ever make money, it’s just that the longer the bubble goes on the greater chance that you’ll be left holding the bag when it all pops which sucks if you invested a lot. If you’re willing to accept the risk of losing it all, then by all means have some fun.

honestly the fact that 2010 meme internet split into buttcoiners and bitcoiners and goons wound up on the funny side while the alt-right chanlords accidentally wound up with a collective billion dollars more than us is kinda infuriating but also pretty much a microcosm of the collective business sense of somethingawful dot com

hey man I'm inured to this poo poo I had to watch Jamie Gold win like 8 million dollars as you know lol

in fact a good part of poker is just watching ridiculous dumb asses win tons of money

I'm happy for most of the bitcoiners, I'm sure a lot of them are just normal people who wanted to gamble on something and won so I mean that's cool. I'm sure there are some extreme idiots and jerks who have tons of money now but it certainly won't be the first time in the world that someone from one of those camps got tons of money

Hello, this is a few sentence summary of what I've been trying to explain to many goons since the summer

The buttcoin jokes are great, uhh, but in this case buttcoiners picked the wrong thing to make fun of, and now a bunch of fedora redditors that were being mocked made a ton of cash
