White Palace, you should also equip grubsong with hiveblood when doing it, so you can generate soul while regenerating masks. Also, the two reach increasing charms for sword bouncing off stuff is also great. The saws and spears are both valid sword bounce targets. Also, that certain escort quest is kind of a lot easier if you still have kingsoul, because you can just take your time and nuke everything down with magic before it can get near you. Boring but effective. But also no longer an option for you, highwang. Also, as of the Grimm Troupe patch, you can go back to the white palace. They even added a new wing! enjoy! Wang, I hope you're happy for the 28 hours I just poured into this game over the last three days. On a more serious note, this was a HELL of a game, and well worth picking up. Deepnest sucked, and one of the Dreamers' areas sucked, but the rest of it was pretty top notch. I got caught up on a couple of the boss refights, but other than that, I enjoyed the experience. On the topic of White Palace, I think a better comparison for it is I Wanna be the Guy rather than Meat Boy. At least here they gave you checkpoints instead of making you start ALL the way back at the beginning each try. I had a bit of warning going into it since I've been watching the videos, so I think that mindset is a definite help rather than going in blind and seeing exactly how the area is.

>2.2 weeks since the last update Hell. Its about time. New Update: Episode 25- Cleanup, pt 1 Today is dedicated to you, the viewer, telling me a bunch of trivial crap that I went ahead and did because gently caress this game has so many small details that are easy to miss! We also learn about the origin of this entire conflict as I finish up all the "tad tones" off screen and fight the final Warrior Spirit. Much to my extreme luck, we somehow also manage to finish up Tizo's story, which I'm really happy it turned out so well. There's no real direction to this episode, so enjoy all the nonsense in it. Next week, The Watchers.

So we finally have lore! The whole story! It seems like this incidence of the 'Radiance-virus' is a resurgence. The timeline seems to be close to: - Radiance starts taking over people in Hallownest - the great knights don't know what to do - Research starts on a way to try and beat it - the Soul Master tries souls and mass sacrifice for it, while the King goes for the Abyss. - After a long while, the Hollow Knight is created while Our Hero is buried underground. - The Hollow Knight is apparently successful, at least for a time - long enough to make a memorial statue, anyway. - Then, the infection comes back - the Hollow Knight wasn't pure enough. In the form of orange goop. - Hallownest finally falls to orangegoop Radiance. Only the Mantis Tribe, Dirtmouth, and the other various NPCs are holdouts against it. - The game begins, as Our Hero has somehow found their way to the cliffs near Dirtmouth. But there's not much to back this up concretely 100%- what we've got is almost as much information as we're gonna get.

bewilderment posted:So we finally have lore! The whole story! Personally, I figured the shadow was used to bind the radiance so the wyrm king could conquer the nest in the first place. And the soul master was just doing what he did for shits and giggles later, or as ways to make the king more powerful. I forgot what happened to the king himself. though. He just... Kind of vanished into the white palace? The soul master could have been trying to contact him, subvert the king's power for his own, bolster his dying liege... All sorts of things. Really all we know is he was working with soul energy, which was the king's sort of magic. As opposed to orange goop radiance magic or black goop shadow magic.

I interpretation of the Seer's dialogue was literal: whatever the Radiance actually is, being forgotten is the same to it as dying (or at least imprisonment). Somehow though--and the exact reason why doesn't actually matter--a tiny piece of it remained to influence the dreams of Hallownest. The more they dream of it, the more they remember it, and the light starts seeping back in through the cracks. I'll modify what I said earlier and put forward that it may well have been benign, or at least neutral, before the King sealed it. However, now that its effectively rising from the grave, well... Zombies are famously unconcerned with the well being of those they come across. I do not mean that it is a literal zombie, work with me here

I find it interesting that, while the Radiance seems to be a supernatural force, the way it manifests physically bears an odd resemblance to fungal infection not unlike Cordyceps. Which notably infect insects and 'puppets' their bodies into favorable conditions for its own growth and spread.

The video won't be up for another 3 hours because of how I like to schedule things, but I'm working OT this week and won't get to post the link until like 8pm PST so gently caress it. Episode 26: The Dreamers Time to open the boss door to Mother Brain. The Dreamers oddly enough aren't boss fights themselves, but they are hidden away behind some form of boss or skill test so their eternal rest won't be disturbed. That being said we also see a couple neat things, like Hornet's discussion of how the Dreamer of Beasts raised her like a mother would, and we also figure out why exactly Quirrell has been trolling these parts. Its a whole bunch of conclusions here as we start wrapping up the game in a nice bow tie. Next time, the worst sidequest ever[tm] and then endings. After that, Grimm Troupe which should only be 2 videos. Appendix videos for the grubworms and other collectables may come late since I have to edit out swathes of video data to make the videos bearable and I just don't have time this week.

Poor grubs
|
# ? Dec 6, 2017 01:27 |

On Grubs: So, insect life cycles can be all sorts of hosed up. There's at least one species of bug where the males hatch before the females, impregnate the females before they even hatch, then die, just as an example. It's not a particular stretch that there could be a species of weirdass butterfly where the children use the body of the father as a cocoon, presumably killing him in the process. Or he could be the one turning into the butterfly. Or this could be just one of many hosed up things the kingdom makes its denizens do. However, At one point the consumed grubs definitely used the happy noises. The ones that play either when you released them, or when they were chilling out in their houses. This was relatively recently changed to the much more ambiguous sounds you heard. Also, remember that the achievement is called metamorphosis and the badge description states "Contains the gratitude of grubs who will move to the next stage of their lives.". So it probably is helping the grubs. Either way, you should ask yourself these questions: 1) If the grubs expected this and this would be bad for them, would they have returned? 2) Why didn't he kill them before eating them? Did they all stay for it? There's like thirty of them and one of him, it was unlikely he'd have caught that many before they scattered. 3) Your dream nail only picks up happy thoughts. If the grubs weren't happy about this, you think you'd pick up some horrified cross-talk. 4) If they didn't like this, the game already has sad sounds for the grubs. But they didn't use those ones. They used either the happy ones or these ambiguous ones. Why do you think that is?

I do appreciate that getting the names wrong with the Dreamer not Watchers thing continues. Deepnest is Herrah the Beast, Fog Canyon contains Monomon the Teacher. Not the Mother and the Librarian. Also Quirrel's thing is kind of sad but interesting, because he doesn't remember his life in Hallownest but is drawn to Monomon, who presumably taught him. Also the Watcher Knight Fight can be made easier because you can drop a Chandelier on them which will reduce their numbers by one. Myla, the miner bug, is actually below the Black Egg Temple. The Temple is directly below Dirtmouth. There are few things in the game which imply there may have been some Radiance sealed away within the crystals they were mining in Crystal Peak, though. e: You can definitely find the new charms online now, I had to look up some of them myself.
