Over the next year X people will be made homeless due to universal credit and austerity, shouldn't you call an election now to give them their democratic right to vote before they potentially lose it? It’s not so much the content but the fact that there is clear evidence that the person responsible for negotiating Brexit spent hours and hours jerking off, on company time, instead of doing his job. If they had found out that he had been raiding in world of Warcraft or bidding on pottery on eBay then it would be just as bad.

Randomly found this while I was looking for someone else, and found it an interesting read - http://www.independent.co.uk/news/election-97-blairs-long-trek-to-victory-1259422.html (A longish article on the 1997 campaign, written just after the election). Interesting what changes and what stays the same, isn't in? Tories riven by Europe, losing their reputation as the economically competent ones...but lefty Lib Dems, a totally different Labour, Tories being kinda pro-immigration and even pro-Euro.

The headline on the National front page this morning is about how UK concessions on NI borders will give a "lifeline" to Scotland to negotiate common market access or something. I can see the NI situation being used to leverage a pro EU indy drive when Brexit really starts crunching.

Weathers decent, microclimate between Portsdown Hill and the Isle of Wight means it’s always pretty temperate. Public transport is getting better(ish). Main corridors through the city have First and Stagecoach, but it tends to die back to just First and odd timetables outside of that. But they now take cards so it’s almost 2005. Train covers a lot of Inner suburb > town / Gunwharf Travel as well. Traffic is loving awful and even worse on match days, even worse than that if there’s an accident on any of the bridges. Avoid buckland, round Queens Street and Somers Town if your rents are looking suspiciously cheap. There’s shedloads to do. Even more if you like boats.

As in, a Yes vote indicates "In the event that the UK exits the EU, Scotland withdraws from the Union on the same day and negotiates to stay in the EU. If no exit, then nothing changes". It might require some preliminary assurances from Brussels, but I can't see why this wouldn't be a good route to pursue. Also, I've decided to try and stop calling it "Brexit" because (a) breakfast confusion, and (b) it rhetorically excludes the effects on NI, much like the negotiations themselves. Is there any better, more all-encompassing term available? Pissflaps posted:Scotland can’t negotiate anything with the EU. Of course they can, just not officially

I can see the NI situation being used to leverage a pro EU indy drive when Brexit really starts crunching. Even by the standards of The National that's some fantasy bollocks. First, there will be a hard border with Ireland because that's what the DUP want, secondly, even if there wasn't there's no loving way that changes the position of Scotland. A hard border with England would be an even bigger disaster than leaving the EU. Honestly, the Beano prints more reliable journalism, but I guess dreaming about another referendum allows you to just wave away the damage that placing nationalism above socialism does to poor Scots, as well as poor Welsh, English & Northern Irish people.
