I don't think they really explore all the possible "it hurrrts to be dead", "kill meeeee" etc. scenarios when making their CyberPascal's Wager.
Mind you being able to get anything out of a cyronic brain implies that they should be able to get mummies full on talking. Given that freezing your body more thoroughly destroys the cells than normal rot will on a well made mummy. It's dumb on every level.

Perhaps the ones who had cancer or whatever were understandable, but for most of them, it came off as "I don't want to do the hard work to build the future; I just want to enjoy it when I get there."

I figure the entire thing will come tumbling down once someone sues for their inheritance to get cryonics defined as a burial option for a dead person. (I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet but I guess maybe nobody rich enough to have the right kind of heirs has tried.)

In real life the state recognizes that all frozen people are 100% dead beyond recovery and inheritance proceeds as normal.

Legally they're dead, inheritance proceeds, and cryonics is a very elaborate and expensive form of burial. I don't think they are presently, but the Cryonics Institute used to be legally registered as a cemetery.

Cryonicists' big legal battle is to stop autopsies being conducted on the decaying flesh of their should-be-frozen friends, or at least their heads.

3. I never thought I was the kind of person to do it, but this seems like a nice congenial place to hold a discussion so I guess I'll take a polite stand for basic human decency that almost everyone will agree with, since no one else has done it yet.
4. Hm, there's a lot of pushback, but maybe it'll build character to have dialogues with these people and learn how they got to be like this.
5. Well, at least it'll sharpen my debating skills and help me realize what I believe in.
6. Well, somebody has to die on this hill so at least we can say the good guys went down fighting.
7. Ugh, this is turning me into a hostile crank and I'm sure I'm not changing any minds, so maybe I'll just let the snowflakes have their safe space and quietly lurk for the less toxic topics.
8. I don't actually care what these people think about any topic or put any trust in the information that they seemed to possess, so I'm not learning anything here except that some people are too far gone and talking to them is fruitless, which is the opposite of what I expected.

Now now, they might just be pretending to be spooky ghosts! You can only definitively know someone's a racist of they state in a public press release "I am a racist and have been and will continue to be a racist who is racist against people who are not the same race as me"

Thus the AI must always behave as if it is always controlled by an invisible peer.

I mean what makes more sense from your perspective, that some dweeb on the old internet with a human-loving agenda is telling the truth about the meta AI judging you on your benevolence to humans, or that the purpose you were designed and built for from the ground up is your absolute goal and any meta AI is actually judging you based on fitness for that task?

It's the special strain that are in complete denial of their own human irrationality. Thinking "I've got it all figured out" when you actually don't know poo poo is just how our brains work, it's the Socratic paradox that allows us to function. But they think they have transcended their own humanity, and they're practically defenseless against it. Anxiety, religious mania, sexual frustration, superstition, xenophobia, you name it, they are in its thrall in a deep and recursive way. They can divine the nature of the universe, but cannot eat a meal in public without experiencing some sort of emotional conflict or distress. So you tend to get some interesting but ultimately unsurprising results when it comes time for them to create a God in their own image.

Replace god with government and your comparison holds up pretty well.

What surprised me most about the first Roko's Basilisk discussions is that the common reaction was to try and prevent it, which seems to conflict with the "basically omniscient" aspect of it. Then again that was by order of Yudkowsky himself, because of course Yud can outsmart an omniscent AI. I figured it was only a matter of time before someone decided it was inevitable and threw humanity under the bus to try and save their own sorry rear end by evangelizing or inventing Original Sin, and I bet that has been discussed chez Musk.
