It's rare that there's decent enough moorings to tie the barge up to, so the pilot needs to be working the throttle to make sure it's being pushed into the riverbank. Rolling on to those things we would have a maximum of one person per vehicle. It was always a good opportunity to get out and have a chat with the locals.
