5 RING SHRIMP posted:BOOK CHAT Currently reading Children of Dune by Frank Herbert. I've read OG Dune a bunch of times and Dune Messiah twice but never part 3 until now. It's slow as hell. Last book I read was American Pastoral by Philip Roth. The middle section was really good but the ending fell kinda flat for me. I set a New Year's Resolution to read a different book every month this year and I need to hurry up and finish this book so I can get to my December book and finish it before the end of the year.

lookit all these fuckin nerd book readers *knocks the books out of all of your hands* Full disclosure: much like basketball cured me of thinking running is anything but punishment, all the reading for my history degree and then my museum job gave me an itchy aversion to reading anything of length.

I've been slowly going through A People's Tragedy, A history of the Russian Revolution because lately I've been getting into bed and passing out immediately after reading a page. I've mostly forgotten the particulars since college, so it's been fun to read up on the provisional government and how the liberals ruined everything. Also read The Orient Express because my phone died randomly just as I was in the middle of nowhere and needed something to read, and am also reading a Stephen King short story collection, Bazaar of Bad Dreams, I've been carrying just in case that happens again. One of the ones that stuck with me was about a poor quarreling couple that gets into a minor fight, then she walks into a gas station, dies of a heart attack, and in the ensuing mess, he forgets he left here dog in the car and it bakes to death. The end.

The one thing I especially missed about my old job was being able to read for hour on end. I finished the entire Dune, Hitchhikers Guide, Palahniuk's entire bibliography, most of Murakami's bibliography and several other assorted books in about a year and a half of working there.

I was obsessed with House Of Leaves in college5 RING SHRIMP posted:BOOK CHAT Currently reading: Going through The Black Company series then a book on the Russian Revolution Just Finished: Rebel League, its about the WHA which was the AFL to the NHL. It was pretty good, but it just felt like a less interesting version of Loose Balls by Terry Pluto. Seriously, if you have any interest in the insanity that was the ABA, this is the book for you. The funniest sports book I have ever read.

House of leaves is good and bad. Interesting reading experience at least. Leviathan Wakes series is really good. Up to the 2nd last book. It grows so well in terms of scale of the story.
