Yeah, Ford made no secret of the fact that they’d only sell you own if you signed a contract promising not to resell it.

That's not the issue, Cena signed a contract and he's an idiot. I hope Ford gets every penny they sue him for.

Siding with either is goofy as all heck and neither one will be harmed or learn any lesson. Technically yeah contracts whatever but that doesn't make it right.

I don't have any allegiance to either party so it's just silly.

That may be true, but we’re talking about a specific instance; and in this particular instance, John Cena is wrong and dumb.

I'm actually somewhat interested in the precedent of not being able to sell something that you own.

If they really wanted to control flipping they should have done what Ferrari does. IIRC they actually lease their high end cars so if the person tries to sell it early or whatever they can just retake ownership of it at the end of the lease.

It isn't even limited to high value exotica. It's not unheard of for dealers near the Canada/US border will make you sign an agreement promising not to resell whenever there's a significant enough difference (due to exchange rates or other factors) between the Canadian and US price for a vehicle to incentivize cross border shopping.
They just won't sell you the vehicle if you don't agree to the terms.

Ford can't stop you from selling the car, but they can certainly sue you for breach of contract if you signed something saying you wouldn't, which is exactly what's happening here.

The legal question I guess would just be whether the contract is determined to be valid.

I hate how since the Outback is the most popular wagon here manufactures feel the need to put matte plastic fender liners on all their wagons to make them palatable to American tastes. Make cool fast sports wagons instead! You’ll sell literally dozens of them!

Yeah it’s SLS AMG levels of exclusivity but completely self selecting without marketing, and also it’s just car forum posters that recognize them in the wild.

the old fart's big 3 make some nice looking cars every once in a while. I was a fan of the cadillac etc, lincoln ls (which really hasn't aged well in my eyes because of kia), and even the early 00's buicks were sort of vaguely jaguaresque

It should also have a V12.

The Bentayga gets a W12 because it's a Bentley
The Q7 gets a 3.0 because it's an Audi
The Touareg gets a 2.0 because it's a VW
The Cayenne gets a twin turbo V8 because it's a Porsche
The Urus should get a V12 because it's a Lamborghini.

It's not that difficult but VAG screwed it up anyways.
