A Big Ten institution offering distance education catering to adult learners
there was an article a few years ago about a guy who commuted like 8 hours a day to get to work from richmond to the doj in dc or something. he lived down in midlothian, drove to fredericksburg to get on the vre, and then got on the metro in alexandria to get into downtown dc. he kind of did it to himself because he didn't want to move his kids or something dumb like that. but, the closest he could probably afford to live is maybe prince william and only in a poo poo school district....so still a 2-4hr daily commute.

Republican National Committie to endorse, support Roy Moore

quote:

President Trump’s endorsement of Alabama Senate nominee Roy Moore on Monday prompted the Republican National Committee and a pro-Trump super PAC to re-enter the state, boosting a candidate who had been largely cut off by his party.

Senate Republican leaders remained critical of Moore on Monday, warning that the former judge is likely to face an immediate ethics probe if he is elected next week. But the America First Action super PAC, following Trump’s lead, announced that it would spent $1.1 million to elect Moore, while the RNC said it was returning to the field after pulling out in mid-November.

I-95 North in Miami during rush hour is typically pegged between 11 and 13$ but I've seen it up to 15$.

E: a friend of mines father is the CEO of a beverage company everyone has heard of and he commutes 2.5 hours into the city and 2.5 hrs home everyday. He has a big rear end house out on a lake with a ton of land so I think that's like his thing.

E2: he does the drive himself. If there's an emergency the send a chopper

Colorado's putting in yet another expensive toll lane on I-25 instead of just expanding the interstate for all. As if the problem were all those people in BMWs choking the roads...

I'm OK with this. If we start pricing congestion at actual market rates we might actually get Americans behind building real mass transit systems in cities that aren't NYC, Chicago, Boston, D.C., etc.

Well aware that this is D.C. Please explain to me how toll roads are terribly regressive. Our interstate system and driving in general is massively subsidized which is a huge reason why we have congestion and financial problems in cities to begin with.

I wonder if $35 is a larger percentage of some people's income or not (huge thinking face)

DC metro has been lighting on fire and falling apart for a while now.

Not saying that these tolls will at all be put to maintaining it, but most metro systems are just about as hosed as our highways.

It's regressive because who needs to commute everyday and will be affected more?

Answer: People without private helicopters.

The road was plain inaccessible to non-carpoolers during rush hour before the toll. They added a variable toll that allows people to pay to get on but keeps traffic flowing.

On one hand, keeping public infrastructure available to all is a good thing. On the other hand, driving in a car alone is hugely wasteful and subsidized in all sorts of other ways. Things like tolls targeted at commuters in a hurry or congestion pricing in city cores encourage the use of public transportation while raising revenue for other infrastructure in a relatively reasonably targeted way.

Yes. Look at how much bus fare is as a percentage of income for some people and its very obviously so. Your speeding ticket being the same as someone who makes substantially less is also regressive, for a rich person(not you) a speeding ticket is meaningless unless it scales with income.
