The MSJ posted:"Tay is Gay" is a popular conspiracy theory that sits right between "Taylor Swift is A Virgin" and "Taylor Swift is A White Supremacist". Taylor Swift is a gay virgin white supremacist.

Would that really make it "more interesting" in 2017? I feel like it's more unusual to find an artist that doesn't sing about LGBTQ stuff. In (possibly?) unrelated news, I can confirm that Charlotte Gainsbourg's new album is dope. I wasn't sure what to expect since the writing/production credits have nothing at all to do with her last album IRM, which is the only one I know about. But it's probably even better.

The MSJ posted:I read a comment elsewhere saying that the song becomes better if you believe Swift is singing about Karlie Kloss. And also if you imagine Dress is directed towards another woman. Semi-related thought that I have had a lot recently: Amy Winehouse- Back To Black is an amazing song anyway, but I always like to imagine it is a man singing it about another man who is maybe questioning his sexuality. The whole song would fit that really well. Hope to see a gay guy cover it someday I guess. Still too scared to listen to Reputation. 1989 really grew on me, I feel like listening to Reputation will tarnish my t-swift enjoyment somehow. I haven't listened to a Charlotte Gainsbourg album lately but I used to bump the hell out of 5:55 when I was in college. Also I see that McCartney and Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo are involved and I am definitely intrigued. Bless this thread tbh, you guys are also the reason I decided to check out Rainbow (which is the best album I've heard in years)

y'all demi lovato is right there making songs about being bisexual that are very good. edit: that said I've always thought You Belong With Me makes way more sense about a closeted young man in high school with a crush on his best friend.

I don't want Tay to be gay because I don't want gay people to have to keep making excuses for her chronic rear end in a top hat syndrome. We don't want her.

Grammy nominations were out the other day. Notably the only pop album in AOTY is the most recent Lorde album; Ed Sheeran was not nominated even though it was a presumed shoo-in. Instead, the category is dominated by hip-hop and R&B albums. According to some commentary I read (on the BBC website), Ke$ha is apparently in with a pretty decent shot of getting the Best Pop Album award.

MUNA, “I Know A Place” 89. Margo Price, “Weakness” (Country but i think y'all would appreciate the song craft) 82. Dua Lipa, “New Rules” 76. Syd, “Know” 71. Fever Ray, "To The Moon and Back" 70. Kehlani, “Undercover” 64. Superorganism, “Something For Your M.I.N.D.” 63. DeJ Loaf, “No Fear” 55. Future, “Mask Off” 54. Charli XCX, “Boys” 53. Davido, “If” 51. Julia Michaels, “Issues” 48. Frank Ocean & Migos, “Slide” 35. J Balvin f. Beyonce & Willy William, “Mi Gente (remix)” 29. Miley Cyrus, “Malibu” 27. Shawn Wasabi f. Hollis, “Otter Pop” 24. Kelela, “LMK” 23. Tove Lo, “Disco Tits” 19. Girlpool, “It Gets More Blue” 16. Lana Del Rey, “Love” 14. Selena Gomez, "Bad Liar" 13. Paramore, “Hard Times” 7. SZA, “Love Galore” 6. Cardi B, “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” 5. Frank Ocean, “Chanel” 3. Lil Uzi Vert, “XO Tour LIif3” 2. Phoebe Bridgers, “Funeral” I actually hadn't listened to Disco Tits before reading this list and now I feel bad that I didn't listen to it sooner. It's outstanding. Also, the wrong songs from Melodrama and Rainbow are on this list, it should be The Louvre and Spaceship. (also I think Bodak Yellow is overrated)

I read The Week in Pop every week without fail but this week’s was particularly catty and hilarious.quote:Still, and let me direct this personally to Beyoncé: Hi. You’re Beyoncé. You’re better than this. I hesitate to question your judgment on such matters, but come on. You made “Countdown” and “Single Ladies” and “Formation” and all those Destiny’s Child monster jams. You are responsible for both “Drunk In Love” and “Crazy In Love.” Just last year you unveiled one of the most spectacular audio-visual achievements in pop-culture history, and you haven’t lost a step since then. Even your pregnancy announcements are works of art — and the audience who worships you laps them up as such. These superstar geekoids [Ed Sheeran and Eminem] were doing fine without you. Why use your power to legitimize them?

remember Aly & AJ? The Michalka sisters, one of whom starred in a Disney Channel show? No? I mean, me either but they have a new EP out and it's actually pretty good. It's very 80s synth and right alongside stuff like Chvrches and Carly Rae and that indie pop trend but it's pretty good.
