Also, head's up, Psych the Movie is on tomorrow night. The premise apparently is Shawn and Gus trying to start up a new Psych in San Francisco, which they moved to after the end of the series.

One of the best USA shows. Just sad that Omundson won't be that big in it due to his health issues.

I also just recently watched Detention this week because of this thread and I'm really surprised this movie hasn't got any kind of real cult following yet. Maybe it's a little too weird or maybe it just hasn't been quite long enough for people to find it. I recommended it to a friend and they asked what it was about. The best I could come up with was a mashup of Donnie Darko, Breakfast Club, and Not Another Teen Movie, except better and weirder.

It feels kind of like Scott Pilgrim for people who were in middle school when the Scott Pilgrim movie actually came out in theaters. Like it's so hip that it was practically dated before it came out which only makes the 90s nostalgia stuff work so much better in contrast, kind of like how the sneering hipness of the Brady Bunch Movie has made the then-contemporary 90s parts just as goofy as the 70s culture it was mocking.

Detention is loving amazing and it made me love Josh Hutcherson despite him being in all those terrible Hunger Games films. Also that cover of MMMbop is loving amazing.

Knightfall didn't have a great start. Some of the worst CGI I can remember in a while, looked like Playstation 2 graphics during the siege battle with the catapults. Obvious copy and paste with the thousands of soldiers marching. Horrible fight choreography so the camera is zoomed in super close and keeps cutting away so you can't see poo poo. It looks like a show that was made at the same time as Hercules or Xena.

Also everyone has long hair and huge beards so they all look the same.

Shut Eye Season Two Field Report:

Only three episodes in, still good. I don't think the dialogue's as tight as last season, but I'm still invested in everything. Not noticed any huge continuity errors caused by the showrunner handover (except one that's quickly ironed over). Angus Sampson and Kadee Strickland still rule (I thought she was acting out of character for the first two episodes, but the third episode contextualised a lot of things for me). Much much more Isabella Rosselini this year as well, which only improves things. Sheree Folkson (Casanova, that episode of The Tick where Ms Lindt attacks Arthur's parent's house) directs the poo poo out of the third episode. And there are tiny evil dolls.

It's good.

They moved to San Francisco after Chief and Julie transferred there, Lassie took over as Captain, and Shawn finally proposed to Jules.

And Gus resigned from his sales job. Then unresigned. Then resigned. And unresigned. And resigned, finally. (all in the space of 5 minutes)

Also, in real life, Timothy Olmundson had a stroke, so that's going to limit his screen time

It works surprisingly well for a television series, albeit an hour-long one.

I was impressed with the flow of the action sequences. You never got 'lost' in regards to where the characters were or where the danger was coming from, and they have an excellent movement from one scene to the other. They're also visually engaging, with bullets knocking out glass or sending pieces of wall flying helping bring some tension to that hospital break scene.

Also, Chris Meloni and Patton Oswalt nail it, and I don't know who played the creepy doctor dude, but he legit freaked me out.

It's all really well done, and I'll be here for the episode next week.

Was it Patrick Fischler? I haven't seen it yet, but I read he was in it. He often plays creeps and weirdos: the guy who had the nightmare about the man behind Winkie's in Mulholland Dr., the snitching Dharma Initiative security guard in Lost, the hit-ordering casino owner in Twin Peaks: The Return.

There should be some kind of psychological thriller starring Patrick Fischler, James Frain, and David Dastmalchian, since they all look superficially similar and creepy.

It is still very good! I was worried that the full season order would dilute it in some way, but thus far they're managing to maintain the same level of arch, self-aware teen drama week to week. Archie's musical ambitions have wisely been sidelined. They finally introduced Hiram Lodge, and he's great, but I wish they would utilize him a bit more (Maybe I'm misremembering, but the parents feel as though they're getting less screentime overall this season.)

Next week is the Mid-season Finale, so if you're ready to break that would be a good time to binge. I doubt they're going to wrap up the big plotline that has been driving the season to this point, but after last night's episode it feels like a few things are coming to a head.

I haven't watched the latest episode yet, but last week's was one of the craziest episodes they've ever done, and I've said that about a couple of other episodes that aired this season. It's about as strong as ever.

Does anyone know how long Happy's season is supposed to be? The comic it's based off of is only four issues long and it sounds like they'd run out of material to adapt pretty quickly.

Also I caught a few episodes of The Orville and I'm enjoying it. It's a nice throwback to an era of sci-fi we don't see too often anymore executed pretty faithfully. Definitely the strongest thing Seth Macfarlane has been directly involved with in a long time (not counting American Dad).
