Don't care about the laboratory at all, this is a perfect example of a project that should have been delayed/cancelled in order to transfer more resources to fixing ME, you know, a main selling point of the loving game. The issues with ME were obviously known to development months ago, but they persisted with this poo poo. Unbelievable.

Lol you have no idea how game development works.

E: I'll give you a hint. The people making a few sliders that probably just surface something already programmed into the game=/=the people designing a Total War campaign.

Nobody said throw every possible person, please stop with the basic bullshit.

They knew months ago that there was a branching/merging issue with ME. There are obviously Art/Design/programming resources needed for both the ME fix, and the lab. This is a clear cut example of CA being spread too thin and not prioritizing main development vs other bullshit.

They aren't a massive company, and they have far too many projects in the air at the moment. It's okay if you are cool with that, I'm not gonna give them a pass (or more money) until they unfuck a primary game mode.

I know which tables to edit to make these slider effects happen, and I also made a legendary lord & province overhaul campaign pack that is kinda boring and slow, 80 turns in I've captured my 4th (fourth) settlement ergo the guy who put this together should have been making Thanquol or Alarielle with his time instead.

As the modders in this very thread have shown, the stuff done by lab mode isn't actually something they had to code, you can already do it by loving with tables in the files. Literally all they did was slap some sliders into a custom battle mode as a fun thing. They probably got a kick back from Intel for doing it, too, given the "PRESENTED IN COLLABORATION WITH INTEL" branding.

It almost assuredly took more effort for marketing to make the loving trailer and get Skaven Guy to record for it then it took them to bang this poo poo out.

Please enlighten me, I haven't learned in the ~6 years I've spent in the industry.

Edit - Like I said, it's okay if it doesn't bother you but claiming that there is no overlap between the work required to add the lab to the game and fixing ME is completely wrong. There are shared resources and a scheduling decision was made.

All I'm saying is that I'm not going to be spending any more cash on this game until they release what they promised, a functioning stitched together map.

Game development is hardly a massively specialised discipline. The guy implementing the ui is going to have a fair idea how a bunch of other elements work to be able to do his job, and ain't none of this stuff rocket surgery.

This is actually a totally reasonable and rational position to take.

It's just weird to get your underwear in a bunch about a no-effort throwaway mode they slapped together as a little free gift DLC like it's a scandalous misallocation of resources.

I'm not sure if you're actually reading what I'm typing, but I strongly disagree that it was a "no effort throwaway mode that someone slapped together" - That is completely divorced from the reality of what it takes to add a feature like this to a game, polish, test, and release it.

The studio has too many balls in the air to be working on this type of poo poo in my opinion. But hey whatever floats your boat!

Please continue posting about it, though.

Surely your insights into how CA's content team, engine team, and UX team are needed. I guarantee CA definitely isn't baking 6 projects at once, like every other software company (games or not)

I'm positive no job you've had has ever had incompatible API changes which surprised you. It's definitely reasonable to assume that years of development didn't change whatever fiddly poo poo bespoke code like Norsca depended on.

ME is fine. Chaos invasions were a problem. Dorfball (and the autoresolve system/confederation system in general) are a problem. AI aggressively targeting players is a problem. But these are problems with TW in general. And ME is a content preview.

You can find problems with anything. Surely, if you're a developer, you know that every major feature adds bugs, and they are never perfect at first. ME works well, doesn't have desync problems, has reasonable turn lengths, managed to squash/relocate a huge number of quests, integrated events from WH1 into 2, etc.

Balance for WH1 races could be better. Lots of things could be better. But it's fun, and "this is played by thousands of people who mostly have minor balance complaints" qualifies as "tested the poo poo out of it". They can/will fix the rest later. This is modern game development.

Feel free to get your gaymer righteousness going.

I'm having a lot of fun with Skarsnik. He far enough away from the north that you don't have to deal with endless chariots, and you are positioned to smother the beardtide in it's crib. Once you get the special landmarks in blackrock and eight peaks (which gives your gobbos some ranks and your new night goblin big bosses some critical starting ranks), you can have make super cheap highly effective armies appear anywhere on the map in about 2 turns.

Well, my first question was pertaining to their decision to include what really does seem like something designed to appeal to a youtube video gimmick. I'd seen a few videos of the "small elite force v. huge chaff pile" persuasion, and thought I remembered them getting quite a few views so a cross promotional game component where they could say "BROUGHT TO YOU BY INTEL" seemed like a reasonable thing to do.

Curious, I googled one of the videos I'd run across previously. I was shocked to see the quantity of views. I don't entirely understand where that appeal comes from. My edit was an expression of that.

I hope that adequately explains my post. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
