I can hear this in their voices. Particularly Kramer's "fifteen damage" part. Wasn't this done by a former Goon who had a gamer comic? I don't remember the name of it, but it was like standard "two gamer guys and a gamer girl" but the guy was receptive to criticism from here?

The comic in question was called f@nboys I believe, think it might be on hiatus. I thought the whole thing about Seinfeld was that he wasn't funny, and everyone was laughing at this tragically unfunny person exerting so much effort and words trying to be funny and failing completely.

I tried watching the last episode but kind of gave up on it, thinking "these people are jerks and I have no real interest in their doings". I have the same problem with that sunny Philadelphia show so it might be on me. As for my quoted hot take, I was being hyperbolic for comedic reasons I really don't like anything he's done but acknowledge lots of other people do.

I always thought that Seinfeld's stand up bits from the show were intentionally tepid in service of the premise that, in the show, Jerry was just a working comedian doing random nightclubs and not a millionaire super comic. All of the characters (aside from Kramer) were supposed to be fairly unremarkable in the fantasy universe where they lived.

Yeah I find shows where the whole cast are terrible people funny, but at the same time extremely quick to wear out their welcome.

sitcoms kind of need the stars to be terrible people though, otherwise the need for episodal conflict will make them the target of a cruel universe and people dont like that theres a handful of good ones, but theyre rare top 3 in no specific order - arrested development - seinfeld + curb your enthusiasm - its always sunny in philadelphia

"No hugging, no learning" was actually a rule in the Seinfeld writers' room. This is nothing special in sitcoms these days but back when Seinfeld first came out it it was a genuinely revolutionary. Edit: Seinfeld premiered back in the late 80s when the top sitcoms were things like The Cosby Show, Roseanne, Cheers, The Golden Girls, Who's The Boss?, Night Court and ALF. Jerry said on Letterman when the show was first going to air that the stand up bits were supposed to be there as exposition so that the show about nothing plots would be understandable to viewers. This was later part of the show where Jerry and George are making their pitch and having a hard time getting people to understand a show about nothing.
