"Left libertarian" in the political compass covers the range from people who think that there should be a strong social safety net and progressive taxation (so no, they don't hate taxes) but also support civil liberties (freedom of speech, press, association, movement, etc) to democratic socialists to anarchists, depending on how far left you go. Libertarians in America all seem right wing because it's only right-libertarians that actually call themselves libertarians. Theris has a new favorite as of 00:56 on Dec 10, 2017 |

goose willis posted:Yes but aren't left libertarians generally against taxes too This is a reminder that in America, they are so far off balance that they think of 'liberals' as left-wing. Many European moderate right-wing parties call themselves liberals. Liberal, a word that comes from freedom, means less rules, less taxes (for businesses and rich people), and less government-run social services. And you know, most of the right-wing European liberal parties are rather similar in what they want to the USA Democratic Party. There's no direct equivalent to the Republican party in Europe, unless you count the far-right parties whose only campaign promise is "less foreigners". The left-wing parties going against liberals in the elections are usually social-democrats, who fight for an inclusive healthcare system and subsidies to help poor people. There's no direct equivalent to them in the USA, except, maybe, if you squint your eyes, Bernie Sanders. Of course there's also the far left, which are straight up socialists.

Look, when you're dealing with faster than light fiber optics, sometimes you're going to get the odd signal that arrives before it's sent. *edit* wait, that's download speed, not ping. In that case I guess it's just giving some of the data back.

For anybody who glanced too quickly at that graph and started to have bad emotions, Jones won and the chart is bad at indicating that fact.
