I'm enjoying the off-model Cataphract 0XP, with quad MPLAS and an AC-20, the ECM really is enjoyable on a brawler.

Posted because goons were impressed when this thing landed triple KBs, including a skeet shot of a poptart light. MPLAS arms and AC20s are really, really good at swatting things in close.

Theb33f's atlas ddc builds are worth stealing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph_GL7QEAPg spooky atlas is worth considering: stealth armor, no artemis, probably a standard 350. (if you must do artemis you can do 2*6+1*4, but are probably committing to a smaller engine size)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYxdVUH0Um0 New tech atlas is a redeeming build for the founder's -d. It spreads damage a bit but it just does a poo poo ton of it. It synchs pretty well with the slightly-more-than-4 mrm cooldown and the double tap. Bonus: can fit a light 350. Shaving to 57 leg armor nets you 13 tons for ammo n stuff

The -s can also do mixed mrm/srm shenanigans. That alpha strike. A candidate for dropping to an ac20(3 tons), 325 (4.5 tons) and dropping endo steel to cram more ammo in.

There's options.

Thank you all who showed up for brawling night! Great to see so many people online again. We had 9 people at the same time at the peak and I think 16 people showed up in total, really great to see! It was an (almost) complete success, I am really, really sorry about missing your message Riller. Please show up on the discord again, we're running groups pretty much every night during this event.

Despite some people (SOMEONE brought an ATM mech to the very first brawling night game! Arguing that you can brawl with lasers and PPCs et.c.) we had a pretty good focus on brawling and there were some pretty awesome games, especially Escort and brawling on Viridian Bog. We saw some classics like the CN9-AH/CN9-A(NCIX), Urbies, Maulers, TBR, Victor and even the QKD-IV4 with MRMs. Then there were some new ones like Roughnecks, Bushwackers, SCORCH, MadCat II's and who can forget the king of the brawl, the ON1-IIC-A!

Some 'shots for you to admire:

How to focus your damage:

In a meta where 80% of all mechs are assaults or heavies never underestimate how bad some people are at shooting a small moving target.

Not to mention the mighty urbie can use things as full cover that other mechs just can't.

It's just that lights are pretty rare now so people aren't used to shooting at competent ones.

This mech is a little awkward. Its limited pod space (big engine) screams Laser Boat, but it doesn't have enough hardpoints to make that work. Maybe an ERLL sniper. I could also see 4 UAC5s or SRM brawler, but I'm not sure it has the tonnage.

No idea why they felt the need to drop another 70-ton Clan Omni when the Nova Cat was just released and is already quite beastly. I would have much rather seen this at 60 tons to give the Mad Dog a little much-needed company.

The roughneck is pretty strong if you are good at torso twisting. It has these little rises on the side torso that prevent the CT from getting shot. I bought the hero for MC when it was 50% off forever ago and it is one of the best IS poking mechs I've had. Jam 3LL and a heavy PPC, fill it with heat sinks, and blast people with it.

I don't get why the Roughneck has such a bad rap. It's got good quirks, decent geometry, and high mount. I'd put some of its variants into the running for best IS 65-tonner alongside the Top Dog.

An informational void capable only of creating noise

So, mechwarrior goons, Beefy and I came up with a fun idea that we need some input on. It's a 1v1 tournament! Read the details below:

Clunker Kings

Clunker Kings will be a 1v1 king of the hill format tournament with a very casual style. Each match will be played in the 1v1 Steiner Arena and broadcast to Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/cluncho by myself as a spectator due to only two spectator slots per match. If I am competent enough and can find a way to build a spiffy overlay then I will do so, and it will show the current leader, the current Clunker King and the upcoming challengers. (If anyone knows how to do this stuff let me know I need help...)

Da Rulez

1. The match winner becomes the Clunker King and stays on for as long as they keep winning! The King can retire at any time if they desire and they will be added back to the challenger pool, at which point the next two challengers will face each other to become the next King!
2. The winner cannot use the same mech within the next three matches. This rule only applies during winstreaks, once you lose you can use any mech you want in your next challenge against the King! This rule is intended to keep things fun and interesting and may be modified as necessary to keep things interesting. Exceptions can apply for real newbies with few mechs.
3. Each win gets a point, the person with the most points at the end of the tourney is crowned the final Clunker King, conferring immense bragging rights! At least until next time...
4. There are NO limitations on mechs whatesoever aside from Rule 2! If you're confident in your Urbie feel free to bring it, but be aware that your opponent may be trying real hard in their dakka dire wolf with their back to a corner...

What I need from you

With that in mind, I want to take the temperature of the thread and find out roughly how many people are interested in joining this tournament and when would be the best time to run it. The immediate thought is that we could start at around 2200 GMT/2300 CET/1700 EST EDIT: I'm thinking Friday sometime, tell me if I'm wrong! and play through until 0200GMT/0300 CET/2100 EST as that would allow the Euros to play in the early phase, then the Americans to join later and I'll still be going to bed early enough that I don't actually die, assuming this tournament is popular enough for that length of time to be fun.

I'd give it a whirl. If it's this coming Friday that is.

I checked that website up above, apparently I play in the 71st percentile. So I guess I'm not horrible... but I thought I was better. Maybe it's because of my overly aggressive playstyle.

I dunno, the RGH is pretty loving good, it's close to ideal honestly. It has an excellent shape to absorb damage, huge unnecessary (but welcome) durability quirks, better weapon quirks than most mechs get, awesome shield arms, pretty good mobility, and pretty much perfect weapon mount locations. The only real flaw it has is that there is no variant with tons and tons and tons of hardpoints but really, it has enough to work with SRMs or laservomit.

I have no idea why it doesn't have a great reputation, it tanks like an Atlas but without being the center of attention and the mounts mean you can play the peek & poke game all day if you want to. Hell, it even looks reasonably cool. The name is sorta dumb but it's Battletech so whatever.

Also I'd be down for a tournament but I can't do Fridays. If it switches to another day I might give it a shot though.
