I think it's super cool that while the gems are all genderless it isn't the focus of the story, 99% of media with trans folks in it seems to focus on the charectors gender identity to the exclusion of Other character traits, so their story arc just ends up being coming out porn for cis het people like gay charectors in 80s/90s movies --- the intended audience with those isn't the subjects of the works. There's some Trans themes in this show but I find it refreshing that it's not the primary focus and they actually have Personalities and interests instead of just being caracatures. Wish I knew of other stuff like this because normally I AVOID media with trans charectors because of how their portrayed. It's also the only cg anime I've seen that isn't totally hideous but that did take some getting used to. Really excited for when I can find fan subs of the newer eps

It's also a shame that Phos does have a useful and unique powerset of their own that... didn't actually involve anything limb-related that happened... but they never seem to realise. They're the only ones we've seen be able to communicate with certain things: Ventricosus, the jellyfish, ice floes*, the independently acting? gold/inclusions. * yeah I know Sensei said they were just reflections, but he also called them Sinners, which is weird, and they sure as hell seemed to move maliciously towards Antarticite for an inanimate object IMO.

Hard to remember you can talk to animals when you keep losing most of your memories of doing so. They had forgotten almost everything about their underwater adventure even before they lost their arms. Phos is a traumatized, sleep-deprived, barely functional amnesiac.

Well there are other 3d shows that took that "unlimited camera movement in 3d space" thing a little too literally, and only managed to make it work once or twice. Houseki no Kuni has staff with expertise to be able to pull it off, but that's still a rarity in the anime industry.

I have been enjoying this slow breaking of Phos for 10 episodes. I'm mostly impressed they haven't gone overboard with DESPAAAAIIIIR like a lot of animated stories. After watching episode two a few days ago, I commented "poor Phos..." to my friends. Their responses were essentially "What episode? You just described the entire show." And now I understand.

Is there any other anime people would recommend with this level of androgeny? Nanbaka comes to mind, but that's all I really know of aside from a anime having a bishie or two.

Ouran Host Club has an androgynous main character, though she is explicitly female. Knights of Sidonia feature a third, in between gender. UQ Holder has a character who is genderless until adulthood. None have an entirely genderless cast, however. If androgynous designs are the only desire, however, there has been a general rise in androgynous "trap" characters in general. Most of those are actually male.
