Screaming Idiot posted:I know turtles don't as the subsonic vibration would travel up the elephants' legs and torsos and cause the Disc to literally disintegrate. Even a stable magical field can't compensate for that much chelotectonic activity. We can also assume they are not very smooth, as elephants would require traction to avoid slipping off the shell while the turtle is in orbit

Wax Dynasty posted:They also have very shallow roots, so in heavy rain large eucalyptus trees have a tendency to fall over (fortunately, they do not then catch fire and explode). That's part of the story but not the whole thing. They also have a feast/famine water management system, where they will go without for a long time then suck up as much water as they can to their upper reaches when a drought breaks. This can make them too heavy in the upper branches and cause them to break off. This kills a few campers every now and then in Southeastern Australia. Never camp under a gum tree, those things are dreadful.

You have one of the few venomous mammals on earth, and your curse California with trees? Trees that take like 100 years to do anything, not even something cool like that plant that if you brush against it you'll be in incurable agony.
