Why bother slicing it up so nicely and putting a pile of stuff at the bottom to cushion the fall of it then? Blasting it would be way easier. Pretty odd. Looks just like the process they use for marble. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=du9_Kn2y2VA

The Lone Badger posted:Why would you ship metal as a liquid? Because the aluminum is already liquid at the foundry, and most of their customers also want liquid aluminum for casting. It's far more efficient to put in insulated containers than to pour into ingots, ship, and remelt. Aluminum also takes more energy to melt than most steels, and is much more difficult to correctly prepare for casting. If the specialized aluminum production facility does all the preparation and ships you a ready-to-use product, they're saving you time and the expense of operating a much more sophisticated factory.

I'm still trying to figure out how installing a bunch of giant breakers is going to fix the core problem of the guy with the wires and screwdriver. "There seem to be some weird surges. Let me install new circuit breakers, that'll fix it!"

So, what's wrong with that dude's electric, for the uninitiated?

Volcott posted:So, what's wrong with that dude's electric, for the uninitiated? I know nothing of electricity, for one. One of his more immediate problems was that putting 50 amp breakers in everywhere almost guarantees that the breakers will never trip in the event of a mishap. In fact some smaller wire gauges couldn’t physically trip a 50 amp breaker, even if you wired them directly into a 3 Mile Island nuclear reactor. The wire would just catch fire, catch the electronic it’s connect to on fire, and then probably burn the house down. A secondary problem is that he’s done all this work himself. I’m not sure how he "got the blessing" of someone from the local utility to do the work, but a blessing is in fact different than permitted work done by a certified electrician. I’m sure there are bigger things I’m missing that someone better will explain.
