I thought horseshoe crab blood was pretty toxic? I grew up in Alaska, so on one of my Marine Biology class trips I found a babby King Crab. It was pretty cool.

I’m glad Coyote Peterson has made a name for himself, even if it means deliberately testing the effectiveness of various animal defenses. I feel like ever since ol’ Steve took a barb to the heart, this generation has been lacking that public figure that shows kids and everyone that cool poo poo is living in the woods nearby.

This reminds me of a family story that got told every few years by ( or on) my great-Uncle Bob. For some holiday dinner a big group went to a high-end buffet restaurant for dinner. All of us went to town on the seafood, they had crab legs, and while we ate he painstakingly picked out all the meat from a big stack of legs filling a saucer with luscious sweet meat. When the bussers were clearing our table as we were all porking out one of them scooped up that loaded plate before he could say anything ---- and it was too late, all of his effort for naught. We sat for a while after so he could eat something, he hadn't yet.

I made the mistake a few times of getting a bit overzealous with clearing the tables, because I didn’t want the servers to get mad about the clutter. But hell, I know a pile of crab meat when I see it so maybe I’m not even THAT dense. I did accidentally pour coffee on the hand of the former governor of Alaska, so there’s that...

In fact, the burn became infected after numerous handshakes with several of the devil’s advocates, and complications arose which led to her getting two fingers amputated. That’s why if you look at any current photos of her, she never has her left hand fully in view without her prosthesis.

My best co-worker was a crab. He was my bro and I didn't let any of the rastas eat him. I lived down here for about a year. Cooler than the surface. Again, working, fleeing the burning orb in the sky. gently caress that orb. Bro giving me the side eye. I loving feed you french fries. Some solidarity would be appreciated. Crabs have no honor. Still my bro.

When I was younger we used to chase around ghost crabs on the beach at night. Little fuckers are fast, but we discovered if you threw a handful of sand at them they would freeze up because they thought they were covered and safe or something. They would start eating each other if you got more than 6 or 7 in a bucket. Turns out crab mentality is very metal!

We had our marine tank serviced yesterday, which means Eugene had to come out and play! She looks as content as ever, doesn't she? We decided to keep her after learning that our marine guy would have to euthanize her after taking her. He doesn't release animals as that would be illegal because of some law about releasing captive animals back into the wild. Sure she's a menace, but she's our menace god drat it!

Hello I have crabs. They happily live in a giant 70ish gallon tank. I love them so much. My strawberry hermit crabs loved to hang out in the water baths. (I don't know, maybe someone wants to see his dirt particles in super HD) I have a red claw crab as well. He lives with the hermit crabs surprisingly peacefully. And yes, that is a hamster wheel in the background. The hermit crabs will spend hours on the drat things to get their exercise. Hermit crabs are seriously adorable.

I’m stuck in an apartment for now and can only manage to fit a meager 10 gallon in for now. How many crabs do you currently have in there? That’s so awesome that you have a big enough setup to accommodate conditions for a red claw crab! And I’ve heard about giving them a hamster wheel or putting them in a hamster ball. I just don’t have enough room, otherwise I’d have a wheel in mine. Feel free to share more about your crab paradise! And for the love of god POST MORE PICS!!!!!

I never thought I'd want a crab for a pet until I visited this thread, and have a guilty admission. In Colombia, there's a drink with crab in it considered a natural, national "viagra." I have my doubts whether the locals buy that, as opposed to their licorice-tasting aquadiente, but they advertise it that way to tourists. Years ago, a co-worker brought me to a shop in Bogota selling this, and it was like the opening scene from Gremlins in there. Bottles and jars with questionable things being pickled in questionable fluids for all I know. The lady took a blender and poured in vanilla liquor, brandy, a quail's egg, honey, a bit of some fruit and spices I don't remember. Then, taking soft-shelled crab out of a small tank, she held it before us (claws all snip-snipping) and dropped it in and immediately powered on the blender. She poured the result through a strainer, and each of us took a cup containing a little or a lot. I took a lot, and went back for seconds. The booze and honey went towards most of the flavor, but the crab left an amazing texture to the smoothie.
