2. I believe that I am entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Nothing more. I also understand that “happiness” and the “pursuit of happiness” are not the same thing.

3. I believe there is no such thing as a “bad job.” I believe that all jobs are opportunities, and it’s up to me to make the best of them.

4. I do not “follow my passion.” I bring it with me. I believe that any job can be done with passion and enthusiasm.

5. I deplore debt, and do all I can to avoid it. I would rather live in a tent and eat beans than borrow money to pay for a lifestyle I can’t afford.

6. I believe that my safety is my responsibility. I understand that being in “compliance” does not necessarily mean I’m out of danger.

One thing making it harder to tip is that wages haven't risen for anyone in like 30 years but restaurants keep getting more expensive. Last time I went to burger king a medium combo was like loving 8 dollars. Going to chili's used to be a $25 + tip situation for two people if you just get food, now it's more like 35-40. I just don't get where anyone gets off raising the prices of things when nobody's getting paid more anywhere. I sure as poo poo can't afford to eat out all the time and I don't know how the gently caress anyone can.

What role did Bannon even have in the Moore fiasco anyway?

Wasn't Roy Moore already running? And didn't Bannon just jump in to glom onto the campaign when they were already looking like they were going to win in the primary?

And why would anyone in the GOP, or anyone anywhere, really, pay any attention to what Steve Bannon thinks or has to say anymore at this point?

I mean you're right that he has a pretty good message about workers not being demeaned because their job is tough/lovely/unpleasant. And advocating for good work ethic isn't necessarily bad, but he does it in this way that completely betrays any goodwill he has towards a disenfranchised working class. In the end he reinforces the ownership-class rhetoric that you should lick the boots of your employers and self flagellate if you find yourself thinking you deserve any better than you're getting.

I don't know him that well but I do think that he is, eh, call it 80% genuine and doesn't really grasp how pernicious and self-harming his attitude is for people who actually are scratching together a living with tough work and meager pay. You can laud the person so long as you also support their actual elevation out of that.

Bannon adopted Moore back in the primary, backing him against the guy McConnell endorsed.

Moore was going to be the start of a groundswell of Trumpistas in the Congress, displacing the old guard in a populist wave. Or so the plan went.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two of President Donald Trump's nominees for federal judge are not moving forward amid criticism from a leading Republican senator.

White House officials say the nomination of Brett Talley has been withdrawn. And a person familiar with the process says the administration hasn't submitted paperwork for the nomination of Jeff Mateer and does not intend to. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to describe internal deliberations.

Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said the two nominees were going nowhere.

In speeches, Mateer has described transgender children as evidence of "Satan's plan."

Talley has never argued a case in court and was rated "unanimously unqualified" by the American Bar Association.

Grassley said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday that he told the White House to rethink both nominations.

Mateer was tapped to be a federal judge in Texas, while Talley was picked for U.S. District Court in Alabama.

http://www.businessinsider.com/omarosa-escorted-out-of-white-house-by-secret-service-2017-12

After the White House chief of staff, John Kelly, on Tuesday informed Omarosa Manigault Newman of her firing, she attempted to enter the White House residence to speak with President Donald Trump, only to be escorted from the grounds.

That's according to a Wednesday report from April Ryan, American Urban Radio Networks' White House correspondent.

Ryan said Newman, a former Trump campaign adviser who has since January been the director of communications for the White House's Office of Public Liaison, protested her dismissal and brought up her efforts to recruit black voters to support Trump during the campaign and her relationships with historically black colleges and universities.

"During that altercation with General Kelly, Omarosa said that she had brought the black vote to President Trump," Ryan said. "General Kelly said, 'No, that is not the case.'"

Kelly also told Newman, one of the president's best-known black supporters, that Johnathan Holifield, the newly appointed head of the White House Initiative on HBCUs, didn't like her, Ryan said.

Ryan said Newman, who competed on Trump's reality-TV show "The Apprentice" in the mid-2000s, then told Kelly she wanted to speak with the president about her firing. But Kelly responded that Trump had already been informed and signed off on it, Ryan reported.

Ryan said her sources told her that Newman used vulgar language and cursed at Kelly, then walked over to the president's residence and "tried to get in."

"General Kelly was called back," Ryan reported. "Secret Service stopped her, and she was escorted off campus."

The Secret Service tweeted on Wednesday evening that it did not escort Newman off the White House premises, as

Newman's assistant was also let go, Ryan said.

Newman's role has recently come under scrutiny in the media, with reports suggesting her position is vague and undefined and a point of frustration for her colleagues. She has struggled to develop relationships between the Trump administration and black lawmakers and communities, and she has a history of sparking workplace drama.

In June, the Congressional Black Caucus rejected an offer extended by Newman to meet with the president, saying it had "seen no evidence that your Administration acted on our calls for action" and had "witnessed steps that will affirmatively hurt Black communities."

And Newman is reportedly disliked by many in the Trump administration, including Kelly and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser.

In a Wednesday statement, the White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, said that Newman resigned on Tuesday "to pursue other opportunities" and that her official last day would be January 20.

This is not the first time Newman has been dismissed from a White House position.

The Howard University graduate, who served under President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore when she was in her early 20s, was fired from her job in the Clinton administration's Commerce Department.

Another former Clinton staffer, Cheryl Shavers, told People magazine in 2004 that Newman "was asked to leave as quickly as possible" because "she was so disruptive," adding, "One woman wanted to slug her."

Mark Burns, the South Carolina pastor who once asked God to give Donald Trump “the words to unite this party, this country, that we together can defeat the liberal Democratic Party,” recently defeated another potential Trump foe: a spider.

Burns and other evangelical leaders were in the Oval Office on Monday to present President Trump an award in gratitude for recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the state of Israel. Then something unusual happened: “A spider almost ate him,” Burns said Tuesday.

In Burns’s account, he was standing behind Trump, who was seated at the Resolute desk in the Oval Office, when he noticed a white spider the size of a half-dollar making its way up the president’s back.

“I just thought I was dreaming,” recounted Burns in a telephone interview. “Is that really a spider running up the back of the president of the United States?”

It was. Burns, for the record, hates spiders, but didn’t see any other choice but to step in. Before the spider got to the president’s neck, Burns whacked it — and Trump — with his bare hand.

“It made such a loud noise, and I think people were bewildered and were like, ‘What did you just do?’” said Burns, who then quickly tried to explain himself: “Security, please don’t shoot me! He had a spider on his back.”

Burns said the president was calm throughout the ordeal and only asked, “Well, did you kill the spider?”

The pastor kept the dead spider as proof of his good intentions. Burns said he sent a picture to experts, and they had identified it as a “yellow sac” spider, a species found in the District (and in much of the United States), which is common indoors in winter months.

Its bite does not appear to be fatal, but it is painful. According to a spider website maintained by Michigan State University, yellow sac spiders likely account for more bites of humans than any other kind of spider. The website says “the bite is usually very painful at the outset. … The burning sensation associated with the bite will last for up to an hour, with rash and blistering occurring during the next 1-10 hours.”

After the spider was squashed, Burns said he joked with Trump that he deserved a medal. He recalled that just before the incident, Burns, who regularly appears on cable news defending the president, had reminded Trump he was still in his corner. “I just said to the president, I said, you know, ‘I still got your back.’ He said, ‘I know you got my back.’”

The White House could not be reached for comment.
