Can’t see until Sunday, so I’ll see you all Sunday night? The last thread was pretty good, yeah. I wasn’t a fan of TFA at all. Good cast, love bb-8. I love Kylo as the vader cosplaying manchild antagonist, but that was about it.

So far I've had two good friends come back with nothing but seething hatred for the movie. I dunno. I'm gonna see it and probably enjoy it. I think the two of them are just weird.

Oh I loved this movie, and I'm a mega nerd on the Star Wars front, but it is going to piss off the worst types of fanboys, and I'm quite glad to be honest. Seriously, it's a bold move to more a less have several characters more a less loudly tell the audience, "the past is the past, we doing our own thing now" and I love it for it. TFA was a great movie but it was a fan service movie through and through, and was just Disney's way of saying that they knew the franchise's roots and could build upon that. This was them saying "ok, we're done reminiscing about old poo poo, time to do something new"

I spent years watching the original trilogy and reading pretty much the entire extended universe, and I really enjoyed the new movie. They spent most of TFA setting up the parallels between the new trilogy and the old trilogies, so it's nice to see TLJ knocking some of them down. I agree that it was good that Luke Skywalker looked directly at the camera and told the audience to let go of their weird idealized concept of the past. I'm also glad that as usual the Internet VFW is the only place on SA that isn't a loving mess. Don't bother checking out the CineD thread.

Came to the conclusion of a generic star wars discussion at work that Boba Fett is Dog the Bounty Hunter and Jabba is his fat wife/business partner. Nothing to do with the new movie, but it came up because they were talking about Boba. Bunch of goddamn nerds.

If this thread/forum didn't exist, I'd go to reddit to discuss this movie before I went into CineD and subjected myself to that garbage. Hey so people who saw the movie, Was I the only one who geeked out at the space B-17's? Cause that def. felt like a homage to Lucas using movies like Dam Busters and the like as inspiration for the OTs space battles Oh and slight bit of bad news, Pablo Hidalgo, the guy who is basically in charge of Star Wars lore and what not now, confirmed that even though Disney bought Fox, there is still one notable person who has to sign off on a release of an unaltered OT on blu ray and what not. So until he dies or Disney forces him to do it, it's not happening apparently

Regarding your spoiler, it was probably that (and I appreciate the concept of Space Bombardiers) and also a nice upgrade to the B-wing. I had thought the B-wing was an extended universe creation, but apparently it appeared in episode 6. What I really like about whatever the new bomber is called is that it's the first time they've really nailed the "large bomber formation" and "escort fighter" concept. They tried with the Y-wings, but they just seemed like slower, older, worse X-wings. The only thing I didn't like was that the B-wings were apparently made of tissue paper soaked in gasoline. If you're going to make them big slow bombers that the TIEs can engage immediately, then at least give them an energy shield or something. I think the space combat has always been a Star Wars strength, and this movie maintained that while building on the foundation.

Good at bombing and torpedo runs, but slow as poo poo and incredibly vulnerable. I never understood the concept behind B-Wings, but they seemed cool as a kid. I was also glad to see A-Wings show up again.

You never really get to see sweet rear end bombers in the Star Wars Universe or at least things that look like an actual bomber I still can't believe that Disney signed a deal that didn't give them full ownership. Also Jesus Lucas you're on the spectrum. You know he views this the same as Welles being able to prevent colorization of Citizen Kane via his original RKO contract.

The big rumor about why Lucas won't allow the original cuts to be re-released is that his ex-wife would be entitled to royalties if that happened and he can't let that happen. She helped cut and edit ANH because it was a royal mess before she got to it.

Welp, just saw it. I'm really happy with the way they made Luke a badass. Also, the .........Yoda.......Just making the spoiler longer, ignore this part cameo was pretty awesome. Edit: Oh, and I didn't catch this, but Carrie Fisher's dog Gary Fisher had a cameo: Apparently he was also at the premier and perked up when she was on the screen. Yeah, I remember asking someone about that and they said it was something to do with the laserdisc versions (which is where the 2006 versions are sourced from). Either way, it's stupid and I'm gonna get real mad about Star Wars if they don't release a proper box set soon. I've held off on buying the blu-rays for this long so another year can't hurt.

Towards then end, during the Luke illusion bit I was looking at him and something looked off. His hair was still brown rather than grey. And I'm guessing it was like becayse the last time Kylo/Leia or anyone saw him before he disappeared he would have looked like that. Probably the most appropriate callback to ANH's Dambusters roots

Yeah I'm really disappointed in this one and hope the director never gets to touch star wars again and I'm glad JJ Abrams is returning. I like some concepts behind the movie but a lot of it just seems poorly executed. I think the best example of this is how many times they say the phrase 'rebel scum'. It was a kinda iconic line and they just say it loving constantly. Its probably said 10 times over the movie. There is a difference between paying homage to the originals like 7 did and running tropes into the loving ground. Also, Rose was god awful and I hope she is dead. The escape pod scene is loving atrocious, episode 1 tier dogshit. Also If there is a god drat love triangle I'm gonna start firebombing hollywood.
