Mirificus posted:Dual Shockers: Star Citizen’s New Video Tackles Atmospheric Flight; Squadron 42 Gets a Small Tease - quote:On top of that, we also get a small tease about the single-player campaign Squadron 42 sent in a newsletter to backers. A screenshot features an Avenger spaceship bearing the “Advocacy” livery with a destroyed space station on the background. Advocacy is a sort of police force with jurisdiction over interplanetary crimes and cases that extend into alien territory. This is certainly interesting, considering that Squadron 42 is mostly a military story, and we’ll have to see how Advocacy fits into it. It's easy, OP. The leaked script had the player start out as some backwater militia dude who fends off an attack and then is immediately drafted into what is supposed to be like the most prestigious Squadron (and also Sandi's favorite number) to work with the greaterest fighter pilot in the history of space "Mark Gary Oldman Hamill" because Crobbler is a hack. So you probably start out as an advocacy agent. Duh.

Monathin posted:I really, honestly, 100% doubt there's going to be a settling out of court. As multiple people who know better than me covered, you don't go to Skadden if you're planning to just 'settle out of court'. These guys don't get out of bed for anything but blood in the water. And I feel like CIG couldn't actually settle with what they have on tap, nor would they - it seems entirely CIG to try and fight this out without realizing how horrifically outmatched in the legal department they currently are. Let's not get wrapped around the axle on the Skadden thing. I've litigated against them, and I've litigated alongside them, and the clear majority of their cases settle before trial (if only because trials at that level are just so expensive). But you also don't hire them for something trivial. You hire them when it's time to bet the company.

I just realized something because I’m slow. In maybe a relatively short time, refunds will no longer be a thing. SC will stop. The grey market fun will be gone because nothing is left. There will only be a short run fun of watching people with $$$$’s into this thing miss the refund train. There will be many “we tried to warn you!”’s and laughs. But... it may be ending. This may actually be the final few months or so of Star Citizen. I’ve had years of entertainment from CR’s atrocious management. It’s all going away, like refunds in the wind.

Toops posted:Yeah, idk man: It may well turn out to be a matter for state bar discipline - a lot depends on things we don't know. "The same or substantially related matter" to me means that if Ortwin represented Crytek in negotiating the GLA, then switched sides in the middle of negotiating - he should recuse. It seems overbroad to interpret that to mean a lawyer who worked for Crytek could never get a job with a software company that would potentially license their product. In my job we have conflict of interest rules that prohibit switching sides within a year of working a particular contract, but you can switch sides so long as you are not involved with the contract in question. But I am not a lawyer, so they may handle things differently, and if Ortwin gets disbarred doing something he should have known not to do, even funnier. If Jones is a lawyer, he is in bigger trouble (potentially) because there is no question that he has a conflict of interest.

They are so screwed on this too. That tracker was loving rigged for years now to deliberately mislead, so if they keep doing what they're doing, and they can't settle out of court, all that means is that they'll get sued for more cash in the end. OTOH, if they fess up and actually stop recycling their own funds through the tracker through whichever one of Ortwin's shell companies masked as 'pledges', or any other fuckery they used on it, then that'll expose their bullshit lying about how much money they had and while they might be able to get sued for less as in: "Look, we aren't getting as much as we used to, see?!" it'll also completely wreck any funding drive for as long as this poo poo hangs over their necks like a damocles' sword. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Only thing I'm curious about is which sort of 'damned' would they prefer to be. My money is on them continuing to bullshit the tracker and continue to be incompetent/delusional so Skadden can get dat big payout!

I am greatly looking forward to the unveiling of another fake gameplay clip and or pre-rendered movie. i feel like after years of tense table-setting and piece-moving, years of squandered dreams and broken promises, years of alliances forming and disintegrating - we're finally into the third act. this is like the first episode of the final three in the series. Tony Soprano's stepbrother was just gunned down with his model trains. Shane Vendrell is on the run with his family, spiralling out of control. the nazi gang has killed Hank and taken all but one of Walter's barrels of ill-gotten money.

Something about a bunch of leaked emails back and forth between crytek and CIG bickering about it. Anyone know what’s up? Nope, haven't heard that. It's hilarious that the rumor mill is now all of a sudden starting to churn on the one thing (besides horrid performance) that's basically killed the game: networking Plus I call bullshit because NO software licensing agreement gives any guarantee of performance - like ever. It's always as-is. Unless it has specific wording that expressly says that such improvements have to be implemented. And if such a thing existed, CryTek won't have used the GLA as a breach of contract, when they were already safe with IP infringement. ----------------
