I watched Cars 3 last night out of curiosity, and it was honestly not as bad as I was expecting.

One thing that was weird was how they constantly talk about Doc Hudson like he died, but I'm pretty sure he's in the background in Radiator Springs multiple points unless that's a different character?

Edit - Oh, I looked it up. Turns out I misremembered what he did in Radiator Springs as being a sheriff, but I guess that's a different character. Still, made for a weird viewing experience where I was constantly going "Wait, isn't he just over there?" :v:

That Lorax movie that came out a few years back was going to have a rock opera number about the Once-ler’s descent into greed and exploitation. It’s been public knowledge for a while, but it’s astounding to hear the difference between Biggering and How Bad Can I Be.

I'll admit, How Bad Can I Be is sort of catchy (and a few lines from Biggering did make it into the final song) but this is better in pretty much every way.

It would be great if they had worked out an arrangement that had some version of How Bad Can I Be earlier in the film then gone on to Biggering.

Back on In This Corner of The World though: I really can't recommend it enough. It's a million times better than The Wind Rises for a movie with similar aims and will probably be considered a classic. A little hard to talk about without spoiling things except to say that it covers normal life in times of war really well and the characters are very appealing. It has a fantastic art style as well, including a few subtle but beautiful moments of the main character's artist vision being superimposed on her perception of reality.

Lorax led me to Sneetches. I understand the moral I'm supposed to be getting. That said, the original star bellied sneetches really seemed to have their poo poo together. Nothing was stopping the plain bellied sneetches from lighting their own fires, and if the star bellies leave when the plains set up on the beach, that just means the plain sneetches got the best spots.

Also, being star bellied is way cooler and anyone who would give it up is a moron.

How did the star-bellies get to the best spots first, and why are the plain-bellies petrified by self-hatred?

You are correct that "The Sneetches" is fundamentally flawed as a satire of bigotry, but let's not fly off the handle and find ourselves unwittingly defending red-lining. The star-bellies do not simply "have their poo poo together," it is only the absence of historical context that leads the reader to conclude that there's a level-playing field, but if we step back from the symbolic order of the story and take an oppositional perspective, the star-bellies are clearly benefiting from a system historically rigged in their favor to give them the most and best quality resources while leaving the plain-bellies psychologically broken and unorganized.

That said, "The Sneetches," while not being a very good satire of bigotry, is a very straightforward satire of consumerism.

So since Dreamworks Animation is going to wind up under the Universal umbrella, is it going to get merged with Illumination eventually? Or are they going to wind up as separate-brands-in-name-if-not-in-spirit, like Disney Animation and Pixar?

I'd be extremely surprised if Disney doesn't shutter Blue Sky as a discrete studio and move all their personnel to WDAS and/or Pixar. There's not really any reason for Disney to keep them around, given that the only thing they make is mediocre competition.

You'd think CN would be loading up on the holiday specials, even that lovely grandma got ran over by a reindeer, but we get a marathon of a show that's already on CN for 12 hours a day.

You'd figure if they want people to use their app, they'd make sure to air a wider variety of shows. How are kids supposed to know if they want to watch a show, if they've never watched an episode of it?

I know the excuse is to focus on CN's app, but my niece and nephew went from loving TTG to hating it through saturation. I'm not sure who the broadcast scheduling is meant to work for.
And really, if you're going to full-hog abandon your broadcast scheduling, just go ahead and abandon broadcast altogether. If the app's so overwhelmingly important, pour your money into that basket instead of this thing you consider a dead format.

yeah, that's the thing - there are shows CN has that is arguably more popular, or at least is more profitable through merchandising and they're luck to have a single showing over hours and hours of a fairly divisive show - especially last I checked, with the amount of episodes, there's going to be a lot of repeats in one day.

It's not baffling, Television just isn't a thing that exists anymore. Especially for children. It's just one more video service in a world that has a billion of those.

TTG ad space is probably more valuable because it's associated with an older property that dumb ad men recognize.
