GOTTA STAY FAI posted:

Harmonquest Season 2 is amazingly disappointing, especially when compared to the first season.

It's a mess. I can live with the occasional technical issue (sound mixing, editing gaffes, etc.), but the first several episodes look as though they were filmed one right after another after a bender and slapped together at the last minute. Harmon is fatigued as hell, like he's nursing a massive hangover, stumbling over thoughts and sentences, Jeff Davis looks like he just got off a 30-hour flight and went straight to the studio carrying a pile of blazers to change into between episodes, and the first few guests seem like they don't really know why they are there or what to do. Even Spencer seems off his game a bit.

Erin McGathy either didn't go to the party with them or has a secret hangover cure because she's (for the most part) fine.

And some things are just weird, like Harmon introducing McGathy as his ex-wife at the beginning of each episode. Seriously, what the gently caress? That's awkward as hell. And why was Aparna Nancherla introduced as "a new friend" with no elaboration as to how she and Harmon know each other or even what she does for a living?

also this may just be me but holy poo poo there is a super weird vibe between Harmon and Gillian Jacobs, who he worked with on Community. it's like they dated briefly and he broke it off, but he keeps finding hand and nose prints on the outside of his bedroom window in the morning

The animation is top-notch, though. One of the scant few good things I can say about the season so far.

I think you stumbled upon the exact truth of the entire shooting of this show. I stopped listening to Harmontown about the time Dan and Erin got divorced, because he seemed to be in a nosedive he apparently hasn't pulled up from. Not sure if I can stand to watch this season at this point.

About Gillian Jacobs, I will say that just sounds like her humor. Being a creepy gold digger is basically her entire character whenever she's on Comedy Bang Bang.

Finished Manhunt, it was pretty good, though it ended a bit abruptly. I guess I don't know where else they would have gone with it.

I'd suggest giving it a watch, it's pretty quick at only 8 episodes.

Started watching the unrelated new Mindhunter Netflix series that's about the creation of the term serial killer and what led up to it. I'm only 2 episodes in but it's pretty good so far. It's produced by David Fincher. Starts out with a teacher at the FBI that is training agents on hostage negotiation. He takes an interest in criminal psychology and teams up with another teacher to track down serial killers.

I was kind of disappointed when they start to get into the relationships of the three leads more deeply near the end of the season. I really don't care about the melodrama of poorly developed fictional relationships crumbling in this show about developing procedures for identifying serial killers. I just want more stuff about this trio of weirdos struggling to get their minds around murder.

He's pulled up from the pits a fair amount. He's in a normal relationship and spent some time doing the show in a studio without an audience.
He's still a drunk kicky baby but the dark period seems to be mostly over.

I had a sleepless night a bit ago and ended up watching a bunch of found footage horror on Prime and Netflix and stumbled on a winner called Bad Ben.

It's basically what if Sam's Choice Frank Reynolds bought a house to flip for profit and the house was haunted. It isn't scary beyond one jump scare midway through but it was enjoyable enough watching him yell at ghosts and be an unpleasant man. There's actually a trilogy but the second is a prequel and doesn't have not-Frank and as a result it's the weakest of the three.

Oh, hey, it just came out on HBO last week, too. I remember hearing the hype and thinking it could not stand up to it but I was very wrong.

On Hulu, Reaper is available.

A guy has his soul sold to the devil by his parents so he must become a bounty hunter for the devil.
It's funnier than it has any right to be but be warned:
Season two ends on a massive cliffhanger that will never be resolved.

You can find some interviews that somewhat tell you where things were going to go but yeah that was a victim of the writers strike.

Ray Wise was the best devil.

Yesssss. It was on Netflix streaming in 2011 and I never got to finish watching it before they started losing a lot of stuff. It's excellent and Ray Wise is the best.

drat, Rocco is brutal. It might be the best porn doc ever made, imagine a way more hosed up documentary version of Shame. The stories are really tough though, I have no idea how the creators got the guy to openly talk about some of the things even his family doesn't know.

I haven't seen a lot of chatter about it anywhere, but I liked Godless so much, I thought I'd share. It's a bleak western, with an unsurprising plot, but they really go deep into the characters, and it's beautiful with great music and acting. I recommend trying it out for 2 episodes at least to see what you think, if you got the patience.

It's really good but everytime Jeff Daniels' character does his "I've seen how I die and this ain't it" speech I wish someone would shoot him in the face.

Really good. The mobile app is hot loving idiot garbage but the built in app on my TV is pretty okay when it doesn't crash after a commercial break.

Ya know I've thought about that too, I got it for GoT this season, I had only seen up to season 3 before that, made for some excellent binging. I've watched vice principals, curb your enthusiasm, and some Mr show as well as a few of the movies. I was a bit surprised at how disappointing the movie selection is, although Logan was just added so that's on the list. I haven't started Westworld, which I'm definitely interested in, but after only a few months I'm pretty close to over it with HBO. Especially with the rumors of how long the next GoT season is going to take to shoot, I can't imagine watching it regularly enough over the next year-year and a half for it to be worth it.

I actually thought Westworld was incredibly overwrought, kinda dumb and took itself too seriously. I kept having flashes to Battlestar Galactica while watching it. It definitely has great production values and all the titties and stuff that goes along with an HBO show, but I still found it lacking. One of the reasons was I found it incredibly hard to suspend my disbelief pretty much at all times. People invent sentient humanlike AI's and house them in undying and undetectable human bodies and they use this for...the world's biggest theme park? Seeing more of the society that made THAT choice would be infinitely more interesting than the amusement park itself, but sadly we never get to leave the park and see the outside world.

Overall I was disappointed, coming from one of Johnathan Nolan's other shows (Person of Interest which is good and has a lot of heart).
